  1. Remapping/Chips will definitely void warranty as will changing headers. Airbox and exhaust mods are for the most part, ok and will not void the warranty. Best to check with dealer first. On changing the airbox, my dealer was fine and said warranty would still be valid as long as I kept paper filters, they hate any filters that use oil as that can clog up the mass air flow sensors and they dont want to be liable.
  2. hotair with the fabspeed- really? I'd like to learn more. I installed the 997.2 fabspeed air intake kit and have been very happy with it. I have not put it on a dyno, but the "kick-in-pants" test seems to indicate more power above 3500 rpms. I did install a carbon fiber heat shield and after spirited driving, opening the engine bay and touching intake/filters, I ascertained there is very little or no additional heat from factory airbox. The only thing I have to be careful with is when I wash the car and open the rear lid to clean off any excess water, seems like the 911 suddenly dumps a bucket-full of H20.
  3. While I was at it, I put in a new odyssey battery in a renline battery mount. Saved a few lbs and I think it looks nicer.
  4. I removed the battery and checked the unit under- thankfully no damage. Mouse focused only on air filter. Upon reconnecting battery etc I get a "PSM failure" - is this something that will resolve itself after some time driving or do I have to take car to dealer or reset something. any help is appreciated. thank you.
  5. Opened up the 997.2 C2S and sure enough a mouse had begun to store seeds & crap in the air filter. I cleaned it out put some peppermint oil drops in there and closed it up. While I'm at it, does anyone know where the cabin filter is on a 993- I'd like to also check my wife's ride (1996 Carrera 911). thank you. p.s. I hate field mice.
  6. Thank you so much Loren for this diagram. Will open her up today and investigate- hopefully no bad surprises. many thanks :)
  7. Anyone know where the cabin air filter is on a 2009 997.2 C2S and how I can gain access to it? Over the weekend, car alarm went off @ 3am- I of course panicked thinking someone is trying to steal my baby, but all I saw were blinking lights. Next morning after must restlessness, I checked the car thoroughly inside and out, opened up the battery compartment and saw some mice droppings (HORROR) - i figured a mouse may have triggered the alarm while scurrying around. Earlier in the week, the garage door had been accidentally left open overnight- I figured thats when the vermin got in. From past experience with other cars, I know field mice love paper filters, I have checked the air filters in the engine bay, all is safe there, just want to make sure they did not find their way into the ventilation system. Any help from members is greatly appreciated. Anyone had issues with field mice and additional places in the car where I should look? thanks- in advance.
  8. 911's are notorious in somehow stopping nozzle flow when the tank is 3/4 full. I've had similar experiences on both my 997 and my wife's 993. I roughly now how many gallons I need for a full fill and so when the tank is estimated to be 3/4 full, I ease up on the fuel flow from nozzle and that seems to do the trick. good luck.
  9. So sorry to hear- some people have no conscience. trust in karma. I get paint kits for all my cars from this place. The match to EOM paint has been perfect for me. http://www.automotivetouchup.com/
  10. Din't know what wheel size the 997c4s uses. However these are the standard summer tire fitments for the 997.2 C2S listed below. If c4s tire/rims match any of these for the C2s, I would say you have a fit without extra spacers, bolts. 11. Guys (& gals). I would be very very careful with checking the oil level. In my 2009 C2S I try to check the oil level frequently using the onboard computer. Yesterday, in the am drive, the oil level was at the topmost fill level (no overfill). On the afternoon ride back, I checked engine oil and the indicator showed half full. Oil level indicator seems very finicky to me. For now I'm not filling in any more oil to risk an overfill. Anyone else having a similar issue where oil level indicator shows wide ranges of fill level?
  12. If you're not going to drive the car in winter, why do you need a C4 at all. I have always been inclined more towards the C2S. Granted, you may not get the better cornering of the all wheel drive system, but 911's are very solid in cornering anyway that I have never really lacked any feeling in an S. An C2S is also lighter and therefore more toss-able, and the extra HP is a boon. your choice in the end, but I would (and did) go for the C2S. either way, you'll be pleased
  13. I had a similar problem where knuckles were getting severly scraped up. I now use a "wheel brush" by mothers which does a much better job, this link may help. good luck. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001GJ3DZS/ref=oss_product if link doesn't work, just search on Mothers wheel brush
  14. No thanks, with all respect. I'll keep my clutch. Ed Same here. Manuals make me more connected to the car. Almost got PDK as I was infatuated with the technology. So so glad wife talked me out of it. for ONCE, she was right. :)
  15. let us know hoe effective the dealership is in removing the squeaks! Ever thought about getting the 3m invisible tape installed - if you have not already?
  16. thanks for the feedback. Seems like I'm not the only one with this issue. I'm going to use some bike handlebar tape (similar to this = http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0017KI05..._ya_oh_product) and wedge it between the top of the leather dash & the plastic instrument cluster. I'd do it in a way that the tape does not show at all. Will let you know how it turns out. :)
  17. Hello All. I had to take my 2009 C2S out last night for a 9pm ride. needed to clear my head. probably lIke most of you, i rarely have any music on as I love to hear the naturally aspirated engine sing instead. I noticed that there was some "squeaking" around the dash area. I came to find out that the 5 dial instrument cluster is the culprit. The plastic base around it seems cheap to me, however it seems to rub against the cluster housing or something & squeaks. Anyone else noticed this? any remedies?
  18. Congrats on the C4S, looks beautiful in black. :) As for clear bra, I had the dealer take care of it after getting a very very small rock chip. I did not want any more. they charged about 1600. I had the lip spoiler, hood, front sides and side mirrors done. have many fun miles of driving. cheers.
  19. I've come to the conclusion that oil burn in 997.2's is normal. Was surprised to read this in the manual "Engine oil consumption = up to 1.5 liters/1000 km (1.6 quarts/622 miles)" Just worried about soot buildup on the tailpipes though. But as long as this is normal. Over 3000 miles, I have added about 5 quarts. hopefully this will decrease over time.
  20. Phillipj, i'm not an expert on lowering suspension, but though I'd suggest this as you helped me on my fabspeed air intake question.: ever think about buying Euro standard springs for your 911. If they're slightly lower, this would bring your car to Euro spec. There is a place that is great for Porsche parts - Pelicanparts.com may help. cheers.
  21. have you checked out any of the Fabspeed products. I installed the fabspeed intakes on my 09 911s and the car definitely breathes better with a throatier exhaust note at rpm's over 3000. Its not obnoxious enought to be annoying either. i know fabspeed makes a ton of other exhaust applications too.
  22. I've been burning oil like crazy too. A few quarts every 1000 miles or so. Dealer says this is normal in the first 6000 miles or so. Other blogs I read say that that it takes this much mileage for the rings to settle in. No other negative aspects observed. I just keep topping off oil whenever it gets low (before check engine oil light comes on). Performance is still great. I'm just worried that something may be wrong, but the 997.2 DFI engine seems to consume a lot of oil. BTW, I'm using the 0W viscosity.
  23. doesnt sport setting automatically lower car & harden suspension. why would you want to go even lower that stock?
