I've replaced 2 986 fuel pumps this month. The first one was a '99 and he had to floor the gas pedal to limp the car back home then it wouldn't start again. The other car was an '01 and he had a no-start issue several weeks before the pump died. He said the car wouldn't start, then he went back to it a few hours later and it ran fine for weeks. The pump did still run but it was not providing enough pressure for the engine. With that issue the sympton is the car will usually start but then dies almost immediately. With a fuel pump failure you will not have any fault codes stored.
The problem that I've seen with these slave cylinders is the plastic tip on the end of the piston breaks causing metal to metal contact against the clutch fork. Every one I've seen has required a new clutch fork as well as a new slave.
Correct, no launch control for you. I believe only the GT2 and 997 with the PDK and SportChrono Plus have launch control.
Why do you want to go down a size? A narrower tire will give you less grip, less resistance to hydroplaning, etc. Also keep in mind changing the tire size will throw off your distance to empty reading and put miles on the odometer faster.
IIRC you just put the updated DVD in and it should prompt you for and update that is already on the disc. If you call your local dealer they can tell you exactly because Nav updates is a common request.
If you pull the coils out and the last two numbers are 03 or higher then Porsche says to only replace the coils with a fault code but I still agree to replace them all. If bad coils is the cause of the misfire then the rough running will be fixed immediately. There are other things that can cause a misfire but coils are the most common.
Yup, sometimes you can get the side grills out without pulling the bumper but not the center one.
Sounds like you have a battery draw issue. Something continued to run after you shut the car off. This is normally not too difficult to diagnose. There are jump start connections under the hood so you don't have to do all the rubbish of removing 2 bolts and tilting the seat back...
flintworks replied to 355bhp's topic in 997-1 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 2S, Carrera 4S)997 regulators are more difficult than on a 996 but still not terrible. That link is a good guide on how to get to the regulator but that inner metal panel does have to come out completely. Once that is out of the way it's no different from any other regulator.
The air ducts behind the bumper that route air to the radiators are different and the fender liners might be different as well. As long as you get all the necessary pieces of plastic it should bolt up.
There are also quite a few chemicals on the market that you spray in the cowl area with the a/c running to kill any bacteria in the system that could be causing the smell. I've heard good things about the stuff made by Wurth.
flintworks replied to shubchs's topic in 996 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Targa)11280 and 1130 are oxygen sensing codes and they do not mean there is anything wrong with the oxygen sensors or gas. These codes are most often caused by bad mass air flow sensor.
