  1. I am installing the GMG WC anti roll bars tomorrow. The GMG bars are developed from their racing program and its what the guys with GT3's and GT2's put on their cars when they get rid of their stock bars. Just for curiosity sake, can you measure the diameter on each GMG WC bar? Good luck with your weekend project.
  2. When you drop it all, can you take one quick picture? BTW, which tie rod/ball joint removal tool will you use? Thank you very much for the DIY link. You just saved me 2 days. Ken
  3. Here are my details: Porsche GT3 sway bar: $234.39 (sunset porsche) bushings: $13.59 each Install time was 1 hour: 16 mm socket , 16mm wrench, Torx 15. Complexity: 1 - Easy as heck. I'm using the middle setting because it was the only setting I could geometrically fit because in the unladen configuration where the wheels have not load, the drop links will not fit in the either end setting(holes) and bolt into place. You can only do this when the car is on a ramp. Then again, perhaps you can do it but I just can't figure it out. Regardless, middle setting suits me fine on the street. The ride is unbelievable or I'm so completely phyched that it's all in my head. I can't explain it but the car feels like it's on rails. Now because the front and rears are not matching, the car feels strange especially when going over bumps on one side where you have the soft front and the hard rear. Anyway, I ordered the front GT3 bars ($225) today so in about 1 month, I'll verify the level of difficulty. (drain coolant lines or not)
  4. When I try to add this photo, the system replies, 'You are not allowed to use that image extension on this board.' 'http://www.flickr.com/photos/51342168@N06/4723140962/in/set-72157624204206031/' I just switched to flicker...
  5. OK, I received my GT-3 Rear Sway Bar, p/n: 997 333 701 95 and 2 bushings, p/n: 997 333 792 95. notice the 3 mounting positions. Two required. The stock bar is 19mm and the GT3 bar is 24mm diameter. Do you think I can install this without removing the droplink? Anyway, I'll find out tomorrow night. Why are my pictures so small? Ken
  6. A perfect explanation, thanks Paul. Sounds like a worthwhile upgrade. My definition of 'better' on the street would be to reduce the plowing that takes place during hard cornering with a stock suspension. I find that my car is sharp and direct on the street, and throttle cures any hint of understeer I experience. On the track, it's noticeable after the tires have been heat cycled a few times and are run hot, but not particularly before. I run stock camber too. Mark Do you have an S? Mine is rock stock, C2 but with 19" rims. I've never been on a track... Anyway, I should be getting my bar soon.
  7. My definition of 'better' on the street would be to reduce the plowing that takes place during hard cornering with a stock suspension.
  8. I ordered a rear GT-3 bar (2008 year) from Jeff at Sunset and it should arrive this weekend. I'll probably install it on Saturday. He would not comment on whether it worked well due to liability, but he did mention that many folks were ordering the rear only for C2's. According to his parts guide the drop link is the same so I'm staying with stock, however, the bushing are different which makes sense due to the diameter change. I'll take pictures and measurements if anyone is interested. I went with factory due to lower cost and the fact that they are 'factory' makes me feel somewhat better.
  9. I just got GT3 rear bar installed on my '06 997 C2 several days ago with tarett links and I all can say - I do not understand why car did not come originally like this. They should have simply used GT3 suspension on all cars they make. I used middle mount points so far but difference is really very noticeable. Hi utkinpol, I'm thinking of doing the same. Questions: Did you install both front and rear? How thick is your GT3 sway bar (Fr/Rr)? How thick were the originals (Fr/Rr)? Thanks, Ken
  10. You're going to laugh. I just called Livermore Performance and they told me that two other guys bought 'rear only sway bars' and are not happy. One was a Boxster owner and one was a Cayman owner. Not funny yet but keep reading.... They received the advice from a forum and they later discovered that the person making the recommendation had front aftermarket sway bars as well. The person from Livermore was recommending that I either get front and rear or nothing since rear only would produce too much oversteer. Major question: Do you have front aftermarket sway bars? I'm going back to analysis paralysis mode. Thanks, Ken
  11. Hi, I have a stock 2008, 997 with 19" rims, K&N Filter and that's about it. I am tired of understeer and was reading some other posts about several options for increasing the handling or at least making the handling neutral by installing larger rear sway bars via a website and via GT3 types. I went to the MillaRacing.com website but only found a list of their suppliers' websites. There were several sites I found on my own but then they had some bad feedback... Has anyone any expererience in selecting rear sway bars? Can you recommend one? Thanks, Ken
  12. I don't know if I'm allowed to sell but I have a Porsche Prince seat with a air bag disabler (just a bar, a connector to an electrical harness under the passenger seat, and a seat belt type latch). this is designed so you can place a child in the passenger seat and you can plug-in the disable. I purchased this for my 2000 Boxster, then continued using it in my 2004 Carrera. I did modify the bracket so I don't think it will fit a bosxter anymore. the bracket/bar, attaches to the two front bolts that secure the passenger seat. In order to activate the air bag disabler, you must go to the dealer to have them send a code to the computer. It was about 3 hundred plus when I bought it... I'll let it go for $75 plus whatever shipping is required. It's in good condition. Let me know if you want pictures. If I'm not supposed to sell here, I'm sorry. I just thought I'd help someone. Ken
  13. Hi Loren, I have a 2008 C2 with 19" factory S rims that recently hit a Detroit Pot Hole. In case you are wondering, a Detroit Pot Hole can hide a 50 gallon drum. I was in a turn going about 80 when I skipped over a raveen. I now have a slight dent on the lip of the rim, however, the dent or 'slight indentation which is not noticable unless I point it out to you', does not seem to affect the ride. OK, my question is about Alilgnment. I recently had my SUV aligned by Firestone who uses a Hunter 4-Wheel Alignment tool. I am about to send my Porsche to get aligned as well. Is there anything specific about a Porsche that I should be concerned with? Also, can you post the alignment specifications for this model? BTW, my advice for anyone seeking alignment if you live in a salty corrosion area is to pre-spray the suspension adjustment nuts/bolts/threads with Break-Free or some absortion compound at least one day prior because it will save you time in the shop plus reduce the chance that some moron would strip your bolt heads. Thanks, Ken
  14. All, This company is legit (good customer service) as they properly credited my account for the blemished rim and shipping.
  15. Update: My replacement rim arrived on Wednesday and it is perfect. They also included a UPS return label. Once they receive my blemished rim, they are to refund the replacement rim cost, i.e., I had to purchase 1 rim and once they receive my blemished rim, they credit my credit car. Hopefully I'll hear from the next week. Thus far, this company does stand behind their products and their service ranks high (so far). Again, I just need my refund for the 1 rim. BTW, the service group has very good email processing in that they respond in minutes or even while they are on the call with you. Ken My next task is to get TPMS' for the rims. I'm thinking of Belle Tires at $79/ea.
  16. It took 2 phone calls but I was able to reach a support person, James, who is email savy, in that he quickly viewed my pictures that I emailed him and agreed that this was a blemish. He is now making arrangements to swap the wheel out at zero cost. So far so good.
  17. They arrived today so that's 4 days ground delivery. I almost performed a backflip. BTW, there is no center cap like the picture. The packaging is professional. Here is the problem: ------------------- email to matt@wheelsandcaps.com -------------------------- Hi Matt, I received my rims today. 4 perfect boxes, undamaged during shipment. 3 rims are perfect. 1 rim, 18 x 10, has small 2 blemishes. A very small nick ‘after paint’ sharp impact from something hard, about the same diameter as a thin pencil and a very small nick ‘prior to paint’ which was probably caused by a blunt impact from something cylindrical. These two blemishes are quality defects in that they should have been flagged either post manufacturing or during the pick and pack process. I think I should be offered a replacement with shipping fees included for delivery of the replacement and the return of the defective unit. I can take pictures of the unit tomorrow. Thanks, Ken --------------------------------------------------- end of email www.wheelsandcaps.com feedback ------------------------------ I must say, they are pretty clean rims which were cast, then nc'd at all critical surfaces with good paint and clear coat. There are some pricks in the clear coat but perhaps 1 per rim, not that you'd see them unless you were looking for them. (just being super critical so I did not mention it in my email) The backside clearly states, 'not original equipment' and upon speaking to the distributor, they are not blem's, they are new replicas. Here are pictures of one of the blemishes. (second thought, blem #1 is so minor that I can't take a picture without special lighting...) Am I too unreasonable to detect this amount of a blemish? Ken
  18. I just ordered these rims with my credit card so I'll let you know in a few days if they are legit. I'm going to order my tmps sensors from belle tire at $79/piece.
  19. I've been tracking Tirerack for months and their prices fluctuate. I just ordered a great deal from tirerack: These sizes are for a C2. 2 x 235/40R-18 Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 N1 (Porsche) In Stock $187.00 = $374.00 2 x 265/40R-18 Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 N1 (Porsche) XL In Stock $186.00 = $372.00 Regular pricing is/was $ 216 and 250 per tire (N2). I'm not too concerned with N1 vs. N2 due to my driving style during the winter time (Michigan). I'm more concerned with other idiot drivers, icebergs, and pot holes. Now I have to find 18" rims. My advice: I don't think you have to get too critical with winter tires in that you'll only have them on for say 5 months and the conditions will be muddy, snowing, dry mud... You'll never be able to hit 150 mph or corner like you would in the summer months with summer tires. I used to drive on 17" rims but it looked too stupid so this year, I'm upgrading to 18" rims with the Porsche tire recommended size. BTW, my summer tires are 19" Carrera S rims and yes I can't find winter tires so I'm going with after market 'look-alike' 18" rims and a set of the above tires. My only concern now is with the TPMS. The old set (17") was off of my old boxster and when I ran them this last winter, I had to put up with a TPMS error each start-up. Another topic but has anyone any knowledge on installing a tpms system on rims? I'm assuming you stick the unit on the inside rim surface coinciding with the air valve? Just wondering... Ken
  20. I have 17" rims that were originally purchased for my 2000 Boxster and I used them on my 04 C2 and 1 year on my 08 C2. this year I'm going to get some 18" rims because the 17" rims made my C2 look like a toy. I might get these rims too. Let me know how your purchase goes. the rims were purchased from an ebay'er in LA but I can't remember the name. I'm in the automotive industry and I can say that if a rim states DOT, they have to be legit unless they are fraudulent then all bets are off. You should feel somewhat secure in that this ebay'er has about 17k feedback. My opinions: 1: You will never drive 150 mph in the winter. I have an 08 C2 with a winter set and I sometimes I hit 130mph but only on a good day and only when I know there is no snow or ice. If you drive like hell and are concerned about the survivability of a rim in a crash, the rim is the least of your worries. I'd get a helmet if you drive this fast. 2: If you deform a rim, you won't care about the metallurgy. You will care about your car body or suspension. I've hit a curb in a parking lot at about 5mph due to ice. Nothing happened to my look-alike rims. 3: $500+ is a good deal for rims and if someone crouches down to inspect your rims in the dead of winter and then calls out the fake rims, then you should shoot that person with a look-alike pellet gun. 4: My secretary once drove my car to get it washed and scratched the rims (oem) whilst pulling out of the parking lot. I paid some guy $130 to re-paint the rims and he grinded the aluminum, applied bondo, painted and it looked new. 50k miles later, it was still good. Honestly, you'll never know the difference between cast, machined or otherwise. (if you are a daily driver) Now if you race or drive everyday at 150mph, then don't buy these cheap rims: like my996 said, get OZ's. BTW, what kind of tires and where are you getting them? did they provide you with any good offers? Ken
  21. I've driven my 04 Carerra 2 for 4 winters + this one and love it. Tires: I have 205/50R-17 - Front & 255/40R-17 - Rear x Dunlops M3's. I'm on my second set of Dunlops on the fronts but the rears are on the 5th year. I think they look too small for the car but, it's winter. The PSM will kick-in when you need it so drive like hell. Sometimes I turn off the PSM so I can fish tail or peel out in the parking lot. I have a quick question: I'm picking up an 08 C2 and the dealer informed me that the bolt pattern may match but the offset is off. I think he meant that the car is wider so thinner tires may appear 'funny looking'. Any ideas? Also has anyone tried the 5mm spacers? Thanks, Ken
  22. oh geez, that's bad news. i'll certainly keep an eye out for any opportunities. i'll PM you with my email address and you can send over a resume. Sorry hear that, well, we did meet and we did co-miserate on your behalf. A good chunk of my companies revenues come from automotive so we have been hurt tremendously over the last year. Our Aerospace and defense business is growing. I'm actually at a A&D conference now and the word is: Savannah, GA is hot since Gulfstream cannot hire enough, same with Dallas/DFW with Lockheed. Unfortunately, very few are hiring in the Michigan area. Which area of engineering do come from? pwt, biw, ip, ... You should definitely come out with us the next time. Regards, Ken
  23. Not sure if I can make it on Friday just yet, but I will let you guys know. Do you mean D_ck O'Dowds - 160 W. Maple - Birmingham? -Don Can't make it tonight, family in town. Let me know if everyone meets up again. Have a great weekend! We have a tentative date/time of 9:30 pm this Friday at Richards. Can you guys make it? I have to show you guys the new engine!!! It also whines like an F1 car(not really but it's in my mind). Today I drive 3.5 hours down to Wooster, OH, with new tires. Regards, Ken
  24. how about 8pm on this Friday at Richard O'douls. If you type in D_ck, the website detects a bad word, hence 'Richard'. I'm out of town Tuesday thru Thursday. Ken
  25. There are two mechanics in the area: Gilsons who I think was featured in the Freepress (I think he gives oil change lessons) and the other guy in Novi (I'll get his name from work). $70/hour is pretty good. Hey Yasuro, this sound ridiculous but I have one Dunlop Wintersport D2 for the 996 front tire. Someone side swiped my car years ago in the Boxster and his insurance paid for my rim and tire. As it turned out the D2 was discontinued so they gave me 2 D3's. So in my garage is 1 D2 and a funny looking rim (cosmetic damage). Your more than welcome to take a look at it. Give me ridiculous offer and it's yours. It's good if you just want sub-light speed tires to deal with winter. If you want, you can compare the D2 to the D3's as I have them both. We should all meet at (Richard) **** Odouls one night for some show and tell or horror stories. ken
