  1. Hi, Is it possible to order a black bezel for a Single DIN radio that will match the console line better than the one I have (more flush with the edge)? What would be the part number? Thanks Chris
  2. AFAIK, on 2002 the fuel filter is located inside the tank and not serviceable. So you are left with the pump unless someone more knowledgeable comes with additional input.

  5. This is not the original bulb but a LED replacement. You can get LED from several suppliers, such as www.superbrightleds.com
  6. Just had a problem with upper pulley, so thought I might jump in... Before doing any R&R on the idle pulley, just listen to the noise by putting a metal rod on the central bolt and listen to the sound from the other end while the motor is on. (I don't remember if the central nut on the tensioner pulley is rotating or not). If you hear any "grinding" noise, then the bearing is toast and it worth the replacement. You can also try to turn any pulley by hand as well: if it turns freely without noise, then you're OK (at 100$ a piece I would not replace the pulley as a preventive maintenance). One more thing: the bolt on the upper pulley is quite long and you will need to slightly bend the metal housing (at the connector location) to have it out.
  7. Thanks guys, even if bad news. I'm looking for a replacement. UPDATE: I'm a lucky guy, turn out to be the upper pulley bearing. Level is at the lower part of the COLD indication, will check again with HOT engine. Fluid looks like very slightly yellow (like thin oil). About the smell this is a tough one: a bit like new electronic device...Look OK to my eye (and nose....) Overall I'm lucky as I found that the sound is coming from the upper pulley. Tried to remove it but couldn't get the long bolt out!!!??? Don't tell me that the motor has to get out to remove the pulley! As I don't have a spare right now, I just spray W40 on the bearing and it's OK for now. Final update: according to dealer, it's necessary to bend the place where the connector are located to get the bolt off..

  9. There's a high pitch noise coming from the motor, increasing with RPM, that is very irritating, especially with top-up. While changing the PolyRib belt, I run the motor for a couple seconds without belt, and oh, what a nice sweet guttural sound. Seems like the sound is coming from the Power Steering Pump. I turned the pulley by hand without effort, but axis is very slightly loose. What are the forum recommendations? Do I need to R&R the Power Steering Pump? Edit: from web search, next steps involve spraying WD-40 on the bearing, inspect pulley edge (for visible rubbing from axial play), and steering fluid level.
  10. Just found out today that if you don't close completely the top, you will see that the canvas is attached to a metal tube with a strap. Just tight it a bit more and voila... If you don't see what I'm talking about let me know and I will take a picture

  12. On my 02S, seat height adjustment requieres that I push the seat towards the back (by pushing with my feet). Turning the lever itself is enough.

  16. Hi, I need to remove about 1/2 liter of oil engine after overfilling. After some reading, it seems that the recommended way is to remove the filter cover. I assume I could only jack the car up on the left side, remove the wheel then remove the filter. Is my understanding correct? (I'm concerned that the all 9 quarts will flush on the floor...) So I would greatly prefer to remove oil from the filler in the trunk using vacuum. Anybody ever done it? What is the diameter & length of the pipe to use? Thanks guys Chris
  17. Pelican has great price (and great service I'm sure) but delivery cost to japan is a killer when all I need at the moment is the serpentine belt. So for those that have any interest, general reference is 6PK2115 (6 grooves and length 2115).   20. I've got this car a year ago. Now reaching 41000 km and doing the 60k maintenance. For the oil, I ask a shop to do it for me (not the dealer). I'm in Japan and I choose Castrol Edge 5W40, 9 liter. They put almost all in, so now the digital gauge is fully light, so I know that there's too much oil. Second, I replaced the plug the day before and asked them to have a look (see attached picture).   22. On the boxster, from the 2002 model, fuel filter are "lifetime" model, located inside the tank, which reduce the probability to find what you're looking for. So it's probably easier to buy a new filter MAHLE KL80 (30USD from Pelican).
