  1. Scroll down if the images look sparse. http://www.leftlanenews.com/porsche-911-future.html
  2. Likewise, but I knocked the drain plug into the hole and did not notice until it overflowed. Griot's has a nice one I'm going to order. 16 quarts (I think) and a free replacement white plug. Great to reduce trips to oil recyclers. Yep, I lost my plug at the recycler's.
  3. Hey, access to TSBs and other docs makes us happier people, I think. :renntech:
  4. Yup, they are great guys who pop up on several sites to spread good info. :notworthy:
  5. They are both fine cars so go with the one that tugs at your heart. The 04 is the last of the 986 series and the 05 is first of the 987 line. Each is a distinction that will/might mean something to collectors in 20 or 25 years. I'd guess a used 05 would have any new model problems sorted.
  6. :welcome: :welcome: :welcome: :welcome: Nice post.
  7. The blurb in May's R&T says top matches the interior. Black top and "dark gray" interior are optional. Poster they sent me yesterday (FedEx Overnite) appears to have red top. If this "dark gray" is like the 04 550, it is what I call "black."
  8. There are two hot leads, a ground and a TP mute wire behind the center stack. One hot is switched the other stays hot. Just remove/pull off the small carpeted piece near your right ankle to access.
  9. As far as leveraging PCA goes you have several options. Go to Tech Q&A on the PCA website http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa.asp and read and/or query to your heart's content. Also there are members with very specific areas of expertise that will help you and give free advice. To include car inspections and valuations. You found the right book at Amazon! Geoff is right about his choice also.
  10. Looks like a radar detector mount. The suction cup push into the round holes, the flat part on the other side goes into the detector.
  11. There is a book on buying used 911s. Cannot remember the name, but find it and buy it. I'd search Amazon first. Then get a friend who knows 911s of that era. Join PCA. Hit their website and study the pertinent pages. This a not a good car for an inexperienced guy to buy if you do not have expert help. They can look great and be dogs. And have huge prive tags for repairs. Bruce Anderson's immortal advice is to buy the best Porsche you can afford. Good luck.
  12. You got good starter advice. My rules from experience: --NEVER buy cheap, low quality tools. --If you need a tool buy it, don't borrow it (unless it is rare and/or very expensive). --Better to have a tool you never use that to not have one you need. -- You can build a great tool collection by adding to your "starter set" as you need or anticipate needs over a period of years. And to the list I'd add low profile ramps, a large oil collector/container and a set of chocks. Go to Griot's Garage and drool.
  13. The Targatop switch in a blank switch location and a donor remote are a simple and clean fix for garage door openers. It has been a well-documented mod. Just search a bit on garage door openers.
  14. You'll need an airbag. Suncoast shows some on their website. http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/merchant...ategory_Code=PO
  15. Like White987S I appreciate the B&W. I tried shooting in BW back in 78-79 in Okinawa and Korea. Taught me what a really crappy photographer I was. All the prints looked like Kodak Brownie snapshots, not the beautiful sepia stuff I'd seen others do.
  16. Hmmmmm????. http://www.autospies.com/news/Porsche-Boar...st-In-VW-27136/
  17. I put black mats in mine. Also have originals savannas. And agree that LLoyds are quality product. Also put hex pattern beige mats in each trunk. Kinda helps to lose the black cavern look - especially up front. But they smelled funny for a long time.
  18. I would say the masq is right in what he says in general. However, if the records are available and the body is unrepaired and sound, I'd say it would be a plus. The history of RMS and intermediate shaft failures makes a new warranted engine a good insurance policy. And Porsche would rather replace that rebuild, so that a new engine is not an uncommon event. No idea how to quantify the value either way.
  19. Maybe later versions are better, but the volume does not change much if at all in my car with audiopilot. My hearing is less than good, tho.
  20. I bought the switch for a lot less than that. Memory fails as I bought another switch at same time. I know the switch was $50.00 or less at Suncoast. Supplied my own wires and connectors.
  21. Fastboy is right. Just remember every time you bump up against the rev limiter, it is logged for the dealer to notice.
