JudgeJon: For those of us with real track experience, mine is most recently driving a race car on the track at the Daytona International Speedway, Let me know the next time you will be at Daytona, I work for ISC and i bring my 996 out there all the time. Between the 996 and other vehicles I probably have 2000 laps if not more on the track. Rob
  2. I am located in Florida also and the foam in my 2000 911 is all but gone and the AC is still working just fine as does the heater. best regards Rob
  3. I tried this with a spare original Porsche key Fob i got when i purchased my 911, seller said he tried changing batteries and nothing. So yesterday with nothing to do i decided to tackle this item. Did exactly as you had written in your instructions and it works. Thanks for your suggestion. Rob
  4. I ordered a LED Third Brake Light from Spoilerlights.com. Arrived a few minutes ago, installed in less then 2 minutes and fits perfectly, very bright!. I am very satisfied with this purchase, my thanks to all who replied back to my call for assistance and especially to bBunny. best regards Rob
  5. The Third Brake Light i need is the one mounted in the body, my spoiler brake light is working and this one is already an LED model. I will look into Spoilerlights.com. Thanks Rob
  6. I finally talked to someone that made sense on this subject. I talked to Andraya at Sunset Imports in Beaverton, Oregon. Andraya informed me that Porsche has the Parts on hand to manufacture the Lastest version for third Brake Light (996.631.050.06) and it could take a alittle while to get them assembled and shipped out. I was added to her list of 911 owners needing this part.
  7. The Third Brake Light Assembly on my 2000 996 Carrera fell apart into multiple pieces. The original Part number is 99663105000. I have been calling Porsche Dealerships, Pelican parts and every other Porsche parts dealers i can find but with no luck. I am being told that Porsche is not making/supplying this part anymore. I have heard of Porsche owners replacing this Part with a LED Assembly, but i have heard that the LED assembly triggers a Error Code. Does anybody know where i can purchase the original part or the LED assembly and if you have knowledge or have replaced the original assembly with the LED assemby have a fix for stopping the error codes i would greatly appreciate it very much.   8. I have the Conti DWS Extreme on my 2000 996, I love them! Great wear, very quiet, great handling. I have over 20,000 miles on them and plenty of tread to go. Got them at Tire Rack. Rob
  9. I own a 2000 996 and have had zero problems with it. It currently has 47500 miles on it. I did change out the IMS just for piece of mind one and a half years ago. When my Indy removed the IMS it did not show any signs of excessive wear or damage. My IMS is a Dual Row Bearing. When the IMS was replaced (45000 miles) I decided to replace the Clutch, Pressure Plate, Throw Out Bearing, change the Transmission fluid and RMS. I was able to purchase the IMS kit directly from L&N. The total cost of the above work was $1650, that included labor and parts, now granted the Indy is a friend of mine who is a certified Porsche Mechanic and a Master ASI Mechanic who owns his own shop so his labor is alot better then the average Porsche Dealer. The only other things i have done to my 996 is to put a new tires on it and replace all 4 speakers with Pioneer three way speakers as the originals sounded very tinty and scratchy. I do keep my 996 in the garage when not driven and i adhere to the prescribed Porsche maintenance program. I own two Porsches, the second Porsche is a 1992 928 GTS which also has given me zero problems and it currently has 87000 miles on it and is taken care of like the 996 is. I purchased both of my Porsches in Germany while i was stationed there with the Military. I firmly believe that if you take proper care of your vehicle it will take care of you. Yes Porsche has had some engineering faults over the years but what car maker hasn't. Porsche does take care of it's customers and i can not complain at all on how my Porsches have been over the years. Goof luck in your search for your Porsche and enjoy it! Rob
  10. I have been running on Continental DWS tires and have not had any problems at all with them. The wear is exceptional, handing is very good in dry and wet conditions. My road noise has been reduced greatly since switching over to these. My car is a 2000 911Carrera. Purchased a set of 4 from Tire Rack at a very good price and had my local mechanic install them. DWS stand for Dry, Wet, Snow
  11. This is my 2000 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe. 46000 miles. Runs like a Scalded Cat on fire. I had the L&N IMS Bearing upgrade, New Clutch, Pressure Plate, Throwout Bearing, Transmission Fluid changed as well. I Upgraded the Stereo speakers as well. This car is a pure pleasure to drive!! The picture of the 911 at Daytona International Speedway is where i work PT on the Fire/EMS Team.

  13. Don't use 100LL AVGAS, here is a little story that just happened regarding this subject. I was at the fuel farm at the local airport filling my AC for a flight when a guy in a Porsche rolls up and starts filling his 911 Carrera up with 100LL. I asked him if he knows that the 100LL is Leaded and not really Low Leaded. He gives me this look like i just P*ssed in his cereal and asked me what the H*ll i knew about a Porsche. He told me that he has been filling his 911 with 100LL for several months and has not had any problems. When i finished filling my AC i pointed to another 911 Carrera (2000) and told him that was mine along with a 928 at home. The look on his face was priceless...... Jump ahead to earlier this week when i was back at the airport playing around in the hanger when the same guy rolls up , except this time in a "Soccer Mom" van. I asked him how his 911 was doing, in a rather low voice with a sad puppy dog look on his face he replied. The 911 is at the dealer being worked on, It started running really bad , Throwing CEL codes over and over again. Long story short, he has to have multiple sensors replaced, catalytic converter, fouled spark plugs, oil has to be changed because AVGAS has additives that when burned collect as deposits in the oil and is corrosive in nature, and a few other items to be replaced. $$$$ Use a good quality gas like Chevron or Shell 93 octane your Porsche will love you for it.
  14. If the IMS was replaced with an L&N Retro Kit then it should be on record with L&N. They ask that you fill out completely an information sheet that asks for the Engine serial number, model, year of car, etc. That is if the owner filled the sheet out and sent it back to L&N. I made a copy of my L&N sheet along with the sales receipt and service record and placed it in the car's service records. :drive:
  15. $950 for the 45k Service?, Wow, that is high :eek: , I just had my L&N IMS retro fit done along with the RMS (free with the IMS from L&N) , pressure plate, clutch, throw out bearing, pilot bearing and 45K Service for $1616.00 ( Parts and Labor) from a friend of mine who is a Porsche Certified, ASE Master Mechanic. Too bad you are not in Central Florida where i am located, could save you $$$. Look around, there has to be other Certified Porsche mechanics out there in your area that are less costly and still do a good job.
  16. I bought my 911 from a reputable used car dealer who specializes in Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, Audis, etc. has been in the business for over 24 years and is honest, does alot of repeat business. Check for individual sales first, there are alot of folks out there now who "bit off more then they can chew" so to speak and have to sell. Go to the For Sale section of this Forum, Also check "Germanautoforums.com" they usually have a few for sale listed. Take your time, check out the car carefully, check for service records, Car Fax records, etc. Buying a Porsche on first impluse is tempting, you like the car, the way it drives, handles, etc, but do yourself a BIG favor and check into all of the previous listed things first. As far as who is the "Real Porsche Enthusists"? My answer is that it is anyone who appreciates a well engineered, great handling, Fun to drive car that won't bankrupt you. This is my 3rd Porsche, I bought a 1956 356 in 1977 while stationed in Germany, it is now parked in the garage next the the 911. My second was a 1987 928, Great car, also bought while on my second tour of Germany. (Had to get out of Germany before i bought more!) :D :cheers: and the Beer was Bad not also!   17. Walk away from it, if the current owner is not 100% truthful about the car and it's history then what else isn't he telling you? There are plenty of good deals with clean history Porsches with service records out there. I bought my 2001,911 Carrera with 44000 miles on it for $23400 last November, service records, clean car fax history. Sinc owning it i have had the L&N Engineering IMS kit installed not because it was bad or going bad but because i did a Pre-Emptive upgrade, also bought a set of new tires. I love this car. When you are looking for a 911, especially 1998 to 2008 ask about the IMS and if it has been replaced, ask for the records showing it. The RMS is no big deal, my RMS was done with the IMS Retro kit (LN gives it to you). Good Luck

I just had the LN Engineering IMS Retro Kit (Dual Row) installed today, I also had the Pilot Bearing, RMS, Throwout Bearing, Clutch Disk,Bearing Guide and Release Bearing replaced as well as the Oil being replace (Synthetic) since the Transmission had to be removed anyway to install the new IMS Bearing. The original Bearing showed no signs of wear, slipping or overheating. I did the IMS upgrade for a peace of mind, now i can drive my 911 (2000, 3.4 lts 6 speed)without worrying about the IMS failure. Total parts was $1100, Labor was $550 (This is a private POrsche Certified mechanic who has his own shop).
  19. Depending on which IMS Kit you need it will cost you $519 for the Single Row or $595 for the Dual Row kit. I am having the IMS Kit,RMS (Rear Main Seal, free from L&N Engineering with purchase of IMS Kit), Throw Out Bearing, Pilot Bearing, Pressure Plate, Clutch installed for just over $1600. I have seen reports on forums and from people i know who have had the IMS failure replace their engines anywhere from $13000 to $22000.
  20. Talking to my mechanic today he told me that he has 2 more IMS failures to work on. Both are on 911s (2001, 1999, one has 66000 and the other mid 40000) the one engine is destroyed and the other may be able to be rebuilt at his shop. It did not totally let go, just making a God Aweful racket. I recieved my L&N Engineering Retro kit today and my 2000 911 with 45000 miles will be going into my mechanics shop on Monday for the installation as well as a new RMS, Throw Out Bearing, Pilot Bearing, and if necessary Pressure Plate and Clutch. My 911 is running great but i just am not willing to take a chance. Better to spend alittle (little as in Porsche $$$) then spend Big bucks later. This makes a total of 5 in my area within the last month with IMS Failures.
  21. FYI: if you purchased the IMS Retro Kit from L&N Engineering they will only honor/accept a limited warranty by them ONLY if a Qualified/Certified Mechanic installs the kit and only if on IMS retro kits installed as a preventive maintenance only when the original bearing has not failed. I recieved my kit today and in the box there is a Warranty Worksheet explaining just that. Good Luck.

( still have it,63000 original miles, parked in the Gargage, comes out for a run on weekends) 1987 Age 30 1987 928S While on my second tour of Germany ( sold it when i came back to the states in 1991) 2010 Age 53 2000 911 Carrera Coupe , Always wanted a 911. (45 original miles sits next to the 356C in the Garage) Goes in for the L&N IMS Retro Kit this week, Don't feel like taking a chance and having the engine let go)
