  1. Would one coil cutting out stop the engine dead? And not restart? Im very familiar with other cars, and they are drivable with a dead cylinder. Not well, but drivable.
  2. P1319 Misfire emissions-relevant P1316 Cylinder 4 misfire emissions-relevant P0123 TP sensor A circuit Signal implausible Symptoms: Wiped down dust in engine compartment. Idled rough after that. One morning after a long drive, car turned over strong, but not one fire. Rubbed and touched wires and things in engine compartment. Started right up. Drove another 800 miles, no problem. Next day, went around a right turn at 20 MPH, car dies. Pull over, try rubbing wires again. Nothin. Wont start. Try and try for 5 to 8 minutes. Then I unplug the TPS. Starts right up. Drive it home. Turn it off and plug the TPS back in. Next day turning right into a driveway (at the state emissions test lab no less) car dies. Starts right back up and passes emissions. Bought the Durametric and those are the codes I get. Not sure if the p0123 was there before I unplugged the TPS. Need advice what to look for or check now. I cant find the fuel pressure in Durametric, is it in there somewhere?
  3. Need some chime in here. I see that MAF's are either 200 bucks or 50 bucks. I assume the 50 buck ones are from China. Would you guys buy 2 50 bucks ones or one 200 buck one?
  4. No problems on the trip really. Looks like the MAF is acting up. The previous owner has a K&N in there. Anyone want it? Im going back to stock.
  5. Thats it!!! Thats all we get!! I was getting some good entertainment from this thread. I feel so empty! No ending to the story!
  6. It only does it when letting my foot off the clutch. In any gear. It comes from the rear of the car. It sounds low and deep, like a thud more than like a clunk. It feels like slop in the drivetrain. I don't know what a CV joint sounds like when its sloppy, but I have a feeling thats it. Ill find out how to check it. I just drove the car from SF to Seattle. The MAF went out the day after I got in Seattle. It knew to make sure to get me home first. :notworthy:
  7. Jetexas you just saved me a lot of money. Unplugged it, bam. Drove it home. If I can send you twenty bucks let me know! Car died a couple times. This time, it wouldn't restart. I unplugged the MAF, started right up. I take it that means the MAF was the condition causing the problem? No CEL. 141000 Miles 99 C2. Ill check if there are any codes asap.
  8. Thanks! I feel a little better. Im going to bask in the rays of greatness when driving my porsche. Nothing quite feels like it. Ahhhhhh.
  9. BTW I found the tools on amazon and craigslist. As far as the manual, I used my X-ray vision.
  10. Don't know cause the last owner doesn't know. I wonder if I called the shop if they could tell me from a record of repair from years ago...
  11. I just bought a 99 996 C2. 140k on it. New clutch at 70k. Im not familiar with the new noises... When I shift in any gear, I let out the clutch and mix some gas pedal and I hear and feel a low thunk or clunk coming from the rear. Like I am picking up slack in a bad u-joint. (in a car with a driveline) Am I shifting or using the clutch improperly? If I let out very smooth and slowly, it wont clunk. Ive driven many many standard transmissions. I think Ive heard this before, not sure though... Any advice?
  12. I just bought my third Porsche, a 99 C2. Before I tell you guys how many miles are on it, I want as many opinions as possible to tell me what they consider is high mileage on that car. Basically, I want to get a feel for when this engine and drivetrain are considered retired. I'm about to put a 1300 hundred mile trip on it and Im concerned it wont be good for the car. Pre Thanks!!! :drive:
  13. Read the diy link for the 996. Anyone know where to buy a triple square bit for that weird bolt? Does someone have a pic from the manual of the bell housing so I can see where the other bolts are?
  14. About to do the clutch on a 2007 997 S. I cant find the clutch tool anywhere. NOWHERE. Can someone verify the 996 tool will work exactly the same? Does anyone need any pics of this DIY since there isnt one for 997??
  15. Has anyone chimed in about the DIY link? Is there one? A shop here quoted 4000 to change the clutch. And the car only has 18k on it!!! First owner must have lived on a hill or was of the other persuasion... ;)
