    The Kenwood Bluetooth adapters are a very good, and are cheap enough on ebay second hand.     I just put a DNX6990 Kenwood in my car 10 days ago. I had/have MOST so extra work, but you get to dodge all that. I bought a refurbished one and couldn't be happier: http://www.salectronics.com/shopexd.asp?id=1654 Kenwood also do an AMP Kenwood eXcelon XR-5S (Available from the folks above also) thats the same size as as the CD changer (roughly). Garmin Maps, colour match buttons, reversing camera, HD radio, Bluetooth, etc....

    The factory AMP is the typical Bose setup and uses a lot of signal processing to compensate for rubbish speakers, upgrading the speakers only isn't going to help, sorry.     I will assume this is a 996.2 based on the year and part numbers are: 999-170-223-90-M14 Bosch FGR5KQE0 999-170-223-90-M220 NGK BKR6EQUP or BKR6EIX in Iridium As for the coil packs, the short answer is yes, its advisable to replace them. You can also leave them in, but whilst you are in there, do them. Coil packs and MAFs are the modern service items every once in a while.

    When I buy cameras they either have an extra wire in with the RCA for the rear or I add an extra wire to the rear. Most trigger off 12V, so connect to the reversing light in the back. I am sure there are places up front to tap the reverse line as well, but its not hard to patch back in the rear. This also powers the camera, so if you want to be able to run the camera via the deck when NOT in reverse, then run two wires to the back, one for reverse trigger and the other for power to camera. I wrap all cables and joints in tesa tape (search ebay), its the black fabric tape that has some sort of glue on one side and is commonly used in all german cars to wrap the wiring, so once you are done, no one will spot that the wiring isn't factory. Hope this is helpful.

    Just run, sorry to say this is not a car you can own without tipping cash into it too frequently to actually enjoy it. I extended the warranty as far as I could and sold it 6 months before it finally expired. You will find yards full of them for sale, no one wants them.

    Assuming the battery is good, these starters can and do stick in the solenoid . The can be rebuilt and replacement is a 20 minute job and can be done by the enthusiastic amateur or any workshop. Instructions here in the DIY from memory.

    I have the K&N, sounds cool, you have to put a towel over it when you wash the car and evidence shows it adds NOTHING (or next to nothing) to the HP. Some folks have oiled up the MAF and have to replaced it. But looks pretty! If I was doing it again, would probably put the 997 airbox in, again, adds nothing but looks nicer than the 996 one.

    The speaker wiring can be relocated up to closer to the battery and the 1m cable is plenty long enough.

    If you have the big long connector for the speakers on your amp, you can use this connector/cable kit from your head unit to the front tire well, and connect to the harness. Check the wiring from Loren again it when it arrives, its easy to modify if you have to with a soldering iron and some heat shrink. This cable is wired wrong for the Bose amp, so is probably wired right for your amp (but really I am guessing). I have one here and its nicely made.     My 10c is on damaged wiring to one of the ignition coils, and/or possibly even the coil itself.

    Hmm, I have the K&N setup and so far, no issues. But colder climate here, maybe thats helping. I did clean the MAF the other day and noticed no difference, so think its OK. I will be watching this with interest to see if yours is the common experience. If it is I guess its back to the standard air box as well...

    Typically, these work in place of the CD Changer and pretend to be a CD changer, so make sure there is no CD in the front and select CDC. The 6 disks that would normally be selectable become the first 6 playlists. Hope that helps till you pull the car apart (start by looking behind the CD Changer in the front.

    Great to know, this was also the fix for the same fault on my BMW X5 a few weeks ago... What is with brake switches and their linkages to engine and abs?

    Cut it and push it down, crude but effective. Zero chance of busting the car, and the replacement antennas are cheap.

    Fixing the little things that aren't quite right or broken is very rewarding. I bought an x lease X5 in a similar state for my wife and $2,000ish of parts, 20 hrs of cleaning and grooming and fitting the new bits and its basically perfect (except for the aging stereo, and will need new from tires in 6 mths). SO not quite yet finished but saved about $10k over a perfect one at purchase, and are still ahead on the books. What is it with interior plastic bits falling to bits? P.S. Sold my Cayenne S at christmas as the warranty was going to run out about now.

    The removal tool doesn't look that special, its a hook, and the inserter is just a mandrel so the seal doesn't get deformed pushing it in, anyone with a lathe could whip one up in 10 mins if they had the seal to hand.
