  1. Not as far as I know, but you should be able to adjust the gap between the front of the hardtop and the screen via the two adjustments at the rear of the hartop top under the plastic covers (which cover 5 internal hex bolts each side to independently adjust both the height and lateral position of the top). The spec on the gaps are: Front gap: 5.5 mm +- 1 mm Rear gap (between hardtop and clamshell): 5.5 mm +- 3.5 mm Hope that this helps.
  2. Actually it is still stuck... I will keep on trying. Gustavo The radio is a tight fit in the slot and you need to wiggle it a bit to get it in at the best of times. Suggest you check the following: a) that the cables out of the rear of the radios are routed clear of the sides of the radio (ie towards the rear) and not obstructing the insertion of the radio B) you appear to have your auxilliary cable routed underneath the radio and I think you'll find there's not enough room. Try routing the aux cable out the rear and back through some other part of the dash
  3. Cheers fellow Ozzie ! The sky is the limit but as a starting point I would suggest replacing the dash and door speakers with MB Quartz or other high quality speakers. See: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=9613 for details. You could also add the PNP rear speaker kit as I did for a bit more spatial depth. (see http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsche-Box...spagenameZWDVW). If you can wield basic tools you can probably install the speakers and PNP kit yourself. However, even if you do these, if you like "Doof doof" music you will be disappointed and you will want to install a sub-woofer ...except there is really not much room for one (some use a low profile unit behind the seat or in the passenger foot-well but I wouldn't bother !). The existing head unit is OK but you need an adaptor to interface an Ipod if you want this capability. All things considered because of the complexity of the MOST bus used, I would stick with the current head unit and amp. If you don't feel up to it yourself, any competent audio shop can handle the speaker upgrades. One other bit more drastic change is to pull out the head-unit and amp and install a 2 DIN DVD/Tuner/Ipod/Bluetooth/Navigation system e.g. Kenwood DDX series units and Navigation option or similar. If you want more details do a search on this site or Boxa.net forum. Hope this helps.
  4. Disconnect the battery for around 1 minute and reconnect . Make sure you have the radio code handy !
  5. I think youll find the part number of the latch cover is 986 563 551 00 B12 (Black). Costs about USD 10.
  6. Looks like ****e if you ask me. The UK one reminds me of a centurions helmut. And the side windows just doesn't fit stylistically if you ask me. If you want a hardtop why wouldn't you get a OEM one. Similarly, if you want a Cayman, buy one !
  7. Nothing to worry about - when cold, it's takes a second or two for the oil to reach the auto tappets. Lots of Boxsters do it.
  8. You can download a PDF Owner 's manual on this site (under "Quick Menu/Porsche Owner's Manual) but it is for a facelift Boxster (post 2003?) which has a few minor differences from your model (has gloveboax etc.)
  9. Nice to help a fellow Aussie ! Be careful when removing the tunnel - it's easy to scratch it and/or the seats ! And by the way, the procdure for removing the door cards and hence the handles etc can be found here: http://www.ecoutez.net/boxster/door-panel-removal/
  10. Instructions for the removal of the lower console and the transmission tunnel can be found here: http://www.turbo911.com/showthread.php?p=1426#post1426
  11. I installed an Alpine MP3 capable CD Changer (Model CHA-S634) in my E46 BMW 323i via an interface adaptor and cable. Works a treat but the BMW Headunit is made by Alpine so compability wasn't a major issue. Have also searched for an equivalent solution for the Boxster (CR220 head unit) but have not been able to find anything. The accepted solution appears to be to interface an Ipod via the CD changer interface on the Head unit (via an adapter available from various suppliers including Becker - some of which include a switch so that you can switch between the Ipod and a CD-3 CD changer if you have one. You can't control the Ipod from the headunit though as far as I can recall (by which I mean skip tracks, display the track which is playing etc.) Do a search on here and Box.net - lots of posts on this subject.
  12. Detailed instructions for retrofitting both cruise control AND OBC can be found here: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=661 You need to register/login on Renntech first. The four stalk switch is actually cheaper than the 3 stalk so cheaper to do both anyway (in case you don't have cruise control already). Wouldn't recommend the dash switch idea (naf) !
  13. Many people have installed 2 DIN Radio/Dsiplay/DVD/ Navigation units from makers such as Clarion, Kenwood and others. Suggest you do a search on this forum and Boxa (UK forum) and you are sure to find lots of details.
  14. If you can't find the speed signal on the cluster presumably you could always tap into the speed signal on the CDR220 radio connector (which is used to control the speed dependent volume function). The signal is on Pin 1 of Connector A (the lowest connector)
  15. I'm stuck. I took off the cd disc caddy and the storage. How do you remove the upper console frame? I can't seem to find any screws to remove. Also, there are these 4 orange looking plastic things inside the upper console frame. One snapped off, is it important that I need to replace that one? I beg to differ. I have removed and replaced the lower console to replace the dodgy platic hinge on the rear glove box with the metal retrofit kit using the B& M instructions above and in my view there's no need to remove the upper console as suggested above to do this.
  16. My guess is that you need to move the opposite rear of the hardtop laterally in orer to close the gap at the windshield using the adjustments described by Chris.
  17. Just used what I could find on this board. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10835 It turned out a great job. A company in town quoted me $800 AU to install it. Thats why I did it myself. :renntech: Welcome from Adelaide. Didn't realise that there were so many Aussie lurkers on this board (and presumably Boxa.net ! I have a Speed Yellow MY2000 Boxster S and as the plastic window will inevitably give up the ghost sooner or later I too have been contemplating installing the BAS top. Just a few questions: a. where did you source the top (BAS in UK or a local agent) and "emuchisit" (that's Aussie vernacular for non locals!). b. any major problems or tips on the installation (i.e. things that caused problems or weren't covered in the installation instructions on the link you provided? Thanks in advance for your assistance. Thanks
  18. Sounds like the plastic switch contact surround which form apart of the ignition key assembly (not the key switch itself) has cracked and failed which causes loss of contacts on various circuits. This was a common problem on earlier Boxsters - do a serach on the forum or Boxsta forum (UK).
  19. I have a broken hinge on the oddments tray and have found the following link which talks about a retrofit kit so that the complete lid doesn't have to be replaced. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...ents+tray+hinge However, I note that TSB 6848 refers to the 996 only. I am aware that there is many common parts between the 996 and the 986 but can anyone please confirm that the instructions and the kit (Part No. 996 552 960 01) are also applicable to the Boxster S (986 MY 2000) ? Thanks in advance for any assistance
  20. Refer to http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=661 I have recently done this mod (4 stalk) on my 2000S Boxster and it's great. Since it is E-gas model the mod is fairly straight forward and the cruise control reduces the number of speeding tickets ! Regards from sunny Adelaide (Orstralia).
  21. Hi from sunny Australia (well not so sunny at the moment in Adelaide at least) ! I have a 2000 Boxster S and have recently purchased a second hand Hardtop which has the small "ears" on the lower edge. I would be very interested to know: a) What the hell are they for and B) when were they introduced/deleted. Judging by the various hardtops on ebay etc. and their presumed MY, I assumed that they were intriduced on the 1997 model and deleted sometime around 1999 or so BUT there is some evidence that it might be the other way around. Would appreciate any inputs. Have attached photo of car - only bought it a few months ago. Sorry about the multiple posts - I was simply reviewing which photo to attach and somehow 3 postings resulted. I only clicked the Post button once - honest !
  22. Boxter newbie from Adelaide South Australia here! Have just purchased a 2000 Boxter S manual with the following option codes which do not appear on the standard code list available on this site: C23 584 Anyone have any idea what these are ? Thanks in advance for any help. By the way have attached a pickie of the car outside D'Arenberg winery restaurant at M'Claren Vale . If anyone is travelling in this neck of the woods, well worth a visit !
