  1. I use this and keep it plugged in just to see how things are. It does more than just reset CEL and code reading. Davis CarChip E/X
  2. Eric, I use to have all sorts of problems with my stereos in my Boxster and my C4S (both are 03s).I started digging around the the center console after taking the radio out, I found that the fiber optic harness going to the radio was either being pinched or just kinked. So, I moved the harness around a little bit and secured it with wire straps so it would be secure. I haven't had one problem since then on my C4S. It's been going on about 11 months now since I've done the work.
  3. Why would a MAF sensor blockage cause the ABS and the PSM light to illuminate ??? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Good question. One of the the car's safety features is measuring the amount air rushing into the intake verses the MPH. The car thinks it's out of control because the speed is not right compared to the TPS and the MAF sensor. If the MAF has something lodged against it, the engine thinks you are at idle because the MAF sensing wires are shorted. So, that will cause the engine to start to close the throttle body flap to try and slow down the car because remember, the car MPH is still higher than what it should be at idle. So actually, the car thinks it has two problems. The ABS and PSM lights came on because of that because the driver failed to correct the out of control situation by applying the brakes at that precise moment. Does that all make sense to you now. If that doesn't, maybe Toolpants and Loren can explain better. <_<
  4. You might want to check your MAF sensor at your intake to see maybe if anything might be lodging up against it. Something could be getting sucked up against it at that engine RPM regardless how fast it takes for the engine to reach it. It can be something small, so check out the air intake box too. While you're at it, clean the air filter. Hope you find the problem. P.S. Welcome to the board! :welcome:
  5. I just went through the same thing you did. Brought it to the dealer and they couldn't hear the rattle so, I had to warm the car up and let the idle drop down and then they heard it. It really was making a lot of noise. It was a combination of a heat shield loose and one of the catalyst converter bad. They changed it out and it even sounds a little bit better with my PSE. :P
  6. What remarks where said to make you think that? How competent are the Porsche technicians at the dealer? Any complaints against the dealer technicians about shady work? Have you checked the turbos oil and engine oil? I'd look further into it now before it gets worse. Good luck.
  7. It's not worth buying anything that cheap for your Porsche. It's a stick-on kit using 3M tape and will void your car's warranty. It's not worth it and it will make you car look cheap. Don't do it!!!! :soapbox:
  8. It sounds like the clock knob stem is jammed or stuck. Pull on the knob until it comes off in your hand and if it stops, that's the problem. Good luck and hope I helped.
  9. I would put a Tap a Fuse on the fuse panel to a circuit that isn't hot all the time and only hot when key is turned and then run a wire to your ipod device. That way you have a fused wire and you can remove it anytime you want and won't be a warranty issue. It would only take about ten minutes of work because it's just a plug in device.
  10. Tire Rack does have a good tire and wheel selection program that will match the right sizes of tires and wheels for your car. It really takes the guess work out on trying to select what you need. I'm lucky because they have a warehouse here in Shreveport, LA where I can just run over and pick up my orders.
  11. Just hold each window button for about ten seconds each direction after window has stopped. Then do the other the same way. Just needs reprogramming.
  12. Check the gas cap. 87 Octane should not set off your CEL.
  13. I don't know about the throttle wheel thing you're asking about but, a lighter flywheel will definitely raise your engine RPMs up rapidly. If you ever have a RMS leak, ask the Porsche Tech to replace the flywheel with a lighter one and while your at it, check into a new clutch assy too. There are many aftermarket companies out there who sell lighter flywheels. Hope this helps!
  14. I haven't tried pushing the clutch in while it's howling. I'll try it next time it starts howling and try to keep the RPMs at 2900 at the same time. just hope it's not a bearing going out.
  15. I've notice a strange howling noise cruising in second gear at exactly 2900 RPM and will go away as soon as the throttle is pushed a little bit. It sounds like it's coming from the rear of the car. Can't really tell if it's the engine or tranny. It only happens once in awhile. Car has 12800 miles on it and all the fluids are checking good. Have no leaks that I can tell. Have been using 10W30 Mobil1 as directed by my dealer because of the hot and humid climate I live in. It's about due for it's first inspection and would like some ideas on what it could be to maybe have the dealer check it out. TIA! P.S. I'm going to start using 0W40 Mobile1 as directed by Porsche. Will that be alright to do? <_<
  16. It didn't make sense to me at first because I was use to changing my oil every 3K miles on my BMW(They recommend 7500). Then I bought a 2003 Boxster and changed every 7500 with filters and then I bought my 03 C4S and sat down with my Porsche Tech and he reassured me that it's alright to change the oil as recommended by Porsche. Even though I went and changed it out after break in, I didn't even have to do that. I doesn't hurt to change often but, it's not needed. ;)
  17. Can't really tell what you're talking about but, it looks normal to me. It looks like my air-box too.
  18. If it ain't possible at the dealer, it ain't possible. Of course, I could be wrong with that statement. I wouldn't be messing with that portion of the spoiler system because of liabilities and warranty issues. But, you could buy a spoiler switch used on the Turbo and run a wire from the switch down near your left ankle to the s/switch you mount on the center top panel like I did. :drive:
  19. Well, my 15K service is coming up very soon and I would like to know what exact oil is authorized for my 2003 996 C4S? My dealer says 10W30 MB 1 and service all their customers cars (Porsche,VW,Mazda and Audi) with 10W30. I'm currently running with MB 1 10W30 and I've seen many and confusing articles on what type should bee used. I live in Lousyaina and it get's fricken nasty hot here, anytime. Can ya help me out? TIA
  20. You can turn off (mute) with the switch for as long as you want. Before you have it installed, you might want to have the European auto mute not installed. The auto mute can be very annoying. Have the person who is installing to just leave out the four pin metal clip when working in the relay box area. I believe it's relay or connector #23. They'll know what you're talking about when you mention it and they're working in that area. Also, I highly recommend that they use S/Steel hose clamps on all the places where the vacuum lines connect or you'll be back many times until they do put them on. Good luck! ;)
  21. Change the battery in the key because it could be weak enough not to transmit the signal but strong enough to activate the LED cicuit in the key. They only cost about $5 at any drug store that sells watch batteries if the dealer doesn't have one.
  22. Wow, that sux! Glad you didn't burn up. How did that piece come loose? What about insurance since the car was racing on a race track?
