  1. I know this is an old post, but the 997T input shaft is now a proven upgrade. It lenghtens gears 1-3 and also significantly beefs up the 3rd gear. Gbox: http://www.gboxweb.com has many, many external and internal upgrades available. I would start with the ~$60 shift detent which helps engage gears better and helps prevent the dreaded popout issue. I have no affiliation with Gbox BTW.
  2. Does it happen at right around 4500 RPM? If so you need new plugs. A few over boosts and you will foul the plugs. That said, 1.4 BAR seem very high. You are probably running into the factory TB shutdown which is the factory ECU protecting your engine.
  3. Hello All. Long time lurker, infrequent poster. I have owned my TT for 4 years now. Picked it up in 06 with 9700 miles and totally stock. It was the realization of lifelong dream. You know the commercial: ...for teh truely afflicted there is decade or two on betweeen" It was originally an X50 and had basic performance mods added over the first 2 years. For comparison sake Here is my car's dyno with the original K24s with exhaust, wastegates and GIAC Flash. This was a dynojet at an independent third party facility and having gone through rounds of mods after this I am CONVINCED that 500 wheel HP on this dyno was nothing close to 500 wheel HP on GIAC's Mustang Dyno as you will see below. The car is SO much more powerful now. I don't know how much power it really had at the time... maybe 430 REAL wheel HP (540 crank)? I upgraded my K24s at my favorite shop Speed Gallery in Studio City this year with the following mods: Tial 2860RS (Ball bearing, water cooled Garrett turbos) EVO Clubsport ICs EVO Diverters SpeedTech Y-Pipe and HOSES 60 lb injectors Hitachi MAF AAsco LWFW New Sachs Clutch GIAC was gracious enough to allow me to upgrade my K24 file which i had purchased over 3 years earlier. The car was very fast and spool improved tremendously. But I felt like the car wasn't running very well at full throttle. After contacting GIAC, I took the car down there where Garrett and company quickly realized that the file I had was too aggressive (it was an intercooler file). They dyno tuned the car and gave me custom file which while significantly less aggressive in timing and boost, allowed the car to run better and stay off the knock sensor. I picked up about 75 HP and 75 ft lb of torque that day and the car was utterly transformed. Here are the before after graphs: In looking at the intake air temperatures GIAC was adamant that the car would run better (as is evidenced by the "stair step" HP curve above) with some intercoolers and offered to review the tuning as well address some minor small throttle driveability issues once I installed the upgrades. I chose to go with EVO Clubsport ICs and Speedtech Hoses and Y-pipe. The EVO intercooler design allows you to remove the restrictive factory style connectors and combined with the Speedtech Y-pipe really cleans up the airflow path of the compressed air all the way to the throttle body. Once all that was installed I again dropped off the car to GIAC for fine tuning. I have had extensive private conversations with several Porsche Turbo owners running non factory MAF setups from several different vendors and the general consensus has been that you have to give up some driveability when you ditch the factory MAF, this is especially true when going with a LWFW. I am very nit-picky and particular when it comes to the small details and really expect stock like driveability. I am very happy with the results. The newest LWFW file GIAC installed is truly BUTTER smooth and stock like just as Garrett had promised. Now on to the good stuff! Keep in mind that this is a TRUE 91 octane file, running real 91 octane at 18 PSI ~ 1.22 BAR. GIAC's dyno registers a stock TT at about 330 WHP like one would expect. I am very happy knowing that my car is making about 200 WHP more than a stock 996TT on California 91 Craptane gas and 70 more WHP than a stock 997 GT2 on the same dyno. I can't wait to try some 104 and use my GIAC handheld switcher to see how that feels! I figure the car now has an honest 650HP on 91 octane and 700? HP on race gas. It's done. Put a fork in it! Special thanks to the following vendors and members The crew at GIAC for putting up with me and going out of their way to make sure the car runs like I wanted it to Dan @ The Speed Gallery John @ Speedtech Hope you like it! Ari
  4. Sounds like they are re-programming your ECU with aftermaket performace software which is fine. That should give you about 480 HP. What he ARE NOT doing is putting in GT2 software. You have smaller turbos which flow differently, but baically the same engine.
  5. I went FVD Pss9s. They will give you smoother cruising and harder handling. The best of both worlds.
  6. I live in CA. I believe we have THE most stringent tests in the country. My car easily passed emission testing WITH all of my mods installed. I'll try and answer everyone's questions. I have an 02 X50 with 11K miles. It is rated at 560HP/TQ. YES, 110HP AND 110 ft/lb more torque. I run 1.2 BAR with spikes seldom to 1.3. Compare this to .8 bar with spiuke to .9 bar stock. Here is a list of the mods: 1. GIAC 91 Octane software with a handheld controller that can return the settings to stock. I do not have the "RACE" program as I don't really care for the extra 20HP/TQ and only put in the best pump gas we have (91 octane). I have never used the stock mode. :) 2. Remus Exhaust. This is the euro spec exhaust with bigger piping. I find this to be the quietest in cruise and seriously bad *** when you punch it. It doesn't get rid of the car's natural tendency to resonate between 2500-3000 RPM, I don't think anythig does. That is just a fact of this car. There is some "popping" under deceleration which is a product of the emissions doing their job (burning un-burned fuel before it goes into the air). The Exhaust just lets you hear it. I LOVE the sound and the quietness all at once. This exhaust like most 996TT exhausts give you quicker spool resulting in about 40HP/40TQ midrange and 15Hp/15 TQ peak (on a stock car). The best part? The price! Thousands less than the competition. 3. Evo V-flow intake. Agian quicker spool, more mid range torque and 15 HP peak. 4. Stock wastegate actuators upgraded to 1 BAR springs. I believe the factory springs are rated at .6 BAR. The stock wastegates tend to be "forced open" or "flap open" against the stock springs actually hurting spool up. This mod give you a LOT quicker spool but the same total boost. Net effect = more midrange HP/TQ 5. Billet diverter valves. I thought this was a BS mod, until one of my stock plastic diverter actually blew into pieces. You really need this. Stock or not. 5. FVDspec PSS9 suspention. Once you go Pss9 you won't believbe how bad the stock suspention really is! The 996 was actually RAISED 1" by the factory to meet US bumper specs. The dual springs allow for about 1" of super soft travel before totally collapsing, then the almost twice as stiff springs take over. Smoother than stock ride, and almost twice as stiff when you take a corner hard. Really the best of both worlds. FVD gives you stiffer secondary springs than stock PSS9. Same ride, stiffer seconary springs. The car has gone from scary to of sh**t! It is totally drivebale and a blast. Just be careful because it will do 90+ on city steets before you can say ticket. It can also be deceptively fast going from staights into a corner. You get used to it, but THANK you for Porsche those brakes. Here are is list of my vendors. Thay have been fantastic to deal with: 1. GIAC X50 Programming: Lucent motors http://www.lucentmotor.com . Arling is awesome. 2. Remus Exhaust, Billet Diverter Valves and Wastegate Actuator MOD. http://www.thespeedgallery.com a seriously great set of guys that know Porsches! 3. FVD Spec Pss9s. http://www.fvdusa.com. Jay from FVD actually checked out a 9700 mile car I bought out of florida sight unseen and had shipped. The car was spotless! I know I can get EVO headers and get 600Hp/TQ and might do that in the future. Honestly, being a car freak I never thought I would say this, this car is already too fast for the street. But knowing me, I'm sure I'll get headers (or ported stock headers) soon!
  7. I second the C4s lip. It is thicker material and doesn't flake as easily. The factory aero lip will juts make your problem worse since it sits lower than stock.
  8. Ditto. We (TT, GT3 and GT2) get the GT1 endurance racing engine which is suposed to be head and shoulders more durable than non turbo cars.
  9. In undestand that the stock .6 bar springs tned to "flap" open an closed therefore slowing down boost response. Oveall boost pressure should remain unaffected.
  10. I just ordered a set of brand new Pss9s from FVD for under $2,000
  11. Stock = 400 Same unit as non X50 Most others = 100 Thought to wear out pretty quickly Remus and Tubi = 200 in my mind the best copromise
  12. I think this an emmisions requirement. Does it feel lkike the car is not slowing down as fast as should due to engine braking in gear? Almost as if there is a small amount of throttle built in? If so, we can thank emissions regulation for this issue. Something about the car making less emmission if the throttle is not closed completely.
  13. Most exhausts give you about 40HP increase in the midrange due to quicker spool up of the turbos, The peak power increase is more like 15HP. These figures are for an otherwise stock (non X50 car). I just had a Remus exhaust installed. I find it is the closest to stock (but deeper) under idle and light cruise conditions with an incredible throaty howl at full throttle. There is NO droning when you take your foot off the gas and on downshifts. This exhaust costs 2-3 K less than the competion, is full stainless and performs very well on my 560HP X50 car. It comes with 200 cell cats and will probably pass emmissions long after 100 cell cats are worn out. Here are some quick clips: http://members.dslextreme.com/users/twintu...emus%20Exhaust/ There is a dyno test by someone on 6speed that backs the performace quoted above. BTW I asked abot B&B and got an almost unanymous NO due to poor sound and quality control issues. I have no personal experience with the B&B.
