  1. Is there an easy way to see the stored fault or does it need to go to the doctor?
  2. Hey all, anyone seen an air bag light come on before? 1999, 996 carrera, 6 speed, 165k kilometers,
  3. Interesting. I have heard something similiar to your description regarding the rubber from the tires. Could be the position of the mufflers too. They do seem very close to the tires. I have new Michelins Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires on. Amazing traction for winter driving in Chicago, but the compound may be very soft and can contribute to the odor. The Plus size may be getting the inside of the tire closer to the mufflers too. Not sure. Thank you for the reply though. I have had the burning rubber smell from mine since I've had it. Have had both PZero and SportContacts on the car and they both do the same. I'd say it's normal - strange but normal. Thank you Scottie. I guess, and am hoping that it is one of the inherent characteristics of the design. I didn't have to worry about this in my 1986 Carrera. I have to get used to the watercooled version. Two different animals yet so similiar. A cross between a motorcycle and a go-kart, but so much more fun. Just my humble opinion. Hey there, i have a 996, 911 carrera c2. it has had that burning rubber smell for 5 ish years now with no major failures or issues. What i found interesting about your post was the ticking noise. I had what sounds like was the same problem and almost sounded like an exhaust leak. I removed all the spark plugs and found one that was only hand tight and almost completely black. After changing the plugs the ticking noise was gone. I guess it was exhaust air escaping through the hand tight plug gasket. Hope it helps!!!
  4. What kind of refrigerant are you using? The engine idol on my 996 goes up by a couple hundred rpm when the compressor kicks on. My car took about 6lbs of 134a refrigerant to recharge. This seemed like a significant amount considering the size of the system. The low pressure switch closed at about 5 lbs12oz
  5. Ive got a 99, 996 carrera, and i charged it with 134a refrigerant until the discharge temp of the air was 38' f. The suction pressure was around 20 psi i think. can't quite remember. but if you go by the discharge temp, cant really go wrong.
  6. Hey Guys, I had the thermostat and a radiator changed on my 1999 996 carrera. It ran at 80 degrees for about 3 months, and now when in traffic it has started creeping up to around 93 degrees. The dealer assures me that this is normal as some cars run hotter than others. When i asked why it didn't run at this temp as soon as the thermostat was changed, they couldn't answer me. I fear there may be some other issue here. What is the normal temp for these cars to run at? I believe the temps on my gauge are in celsius. Thanks so much.
  7. Dude love the sweet shocker. Every self respecting porsche owner can't forget the shocker!
  8. Is the board secured to the floor of the trunk? no actually its a real snug fit to the carpet on the sides of the trunk. the amps are secured to the board. you cant move the board in any direction but up if you pull hard.
  9. Hey friend, i have a 99' c2, and i have 2 amps mounted on a board in front of the spare. i did not put them there but i am second owner and they were installed when the car was new. You shouldn't have a problem as long as they are secure, i never have anyway.
  10. hey buds i have a 99 c2 and i changed my shocks and struts at 75000 k. my front tires last usually twice as long as my rears. i e every second set of rears i change i change the front once.
  11. If they're newly designed it's not the center section raising...mine do that from the factory. Look stock to me. [/quote
  12. Keep in mind the compressor could start up and the system could be full of gas and still no a/c. This would indicate an internal problem with the compressor. Although it is unlikely, it is a possibility and something handy to know in case they give you an expensive repair quote.
  13. I had the same problem about 3 mos ago. The seal on the passenger side door right in the front bottom corner had come loose and was allowing moisture in. Also checked and cleaned all drains at the time of repair. they seemed to be o k in my case.
  14. Thanks for the sharing of the experience.... but I think I'll take my chance.... If I encounter a traffic stop, I generally roll down both side windows before the cop walk over.... and if I'm at a light and see some cops, I'll roll down both my windows... instead of just sitting in the dark.... If they stop me for speeding, it is not likely that they had spotted my both sides tint.... And during the stop and whilt they talk me... they cannot MAKE me roll up the window for them.... they can ASK, but I don't really have to perform what they ASK me to do.... they can remove me from my car, but I will not consent to a search.... they can try to search without consent... but they better prepare themselves with some **** good probable cause..... or you could just shoot them...
  15. i noticed a rubbing noise at low speeds when approaching a stoplight. i got out and looked and thats what i found. no, im not still driving it, my new wheel is here and will be replaced today. but i couldn't believe it as i wasn't driving fast or irresponsibly when i think it happened. these wheels are supposed to be the best, i sent the photo to ruf in texas and am waiting for a reply. i will send the wheel today to find out the coverage. they have to do something i would think as there is no other damage to the rubber or wheel. :drive:
  16. I would contact RUF, the manufactuer they might replace the defective wheel. Could you post a photo of the crack? D Man thanks i will try to add the photos.
  17. Hey all I have a 1999 996 c2 coupe 6 speed. i bought the car with 19" ruf polished rims. The rear driver side rim cracked last week under normal driving conditions. i know that they hve never had problems in the past with the previous owner. Im wondering if any ruf owners have experienced the same thing ever?? is it a regular problem with these wheels?? Will the manufacturer stand behind their product if it cracks like this? Any info would help.
  18. i was looking to do the exact same thing but it got to be a little bit much for me so i had my mechanic price it all out for me if i can ill get the part numbers and post them here. if you find them could you post as well? Lixmas
  19. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...c=56&st=0&p=117 hey thanks alot loren i thought something might have been wacky
  20. i have a 996 c2 1999 6 speed coupe. when i close the sunroof i always press the button one time. sometimes it will close and then open up again to halfway by itself. ill then press the button again and it will close and stay closed. it only happens once in a while, anyone experience this? <_<
  21. i know that it is not possible to program a 2003-2005 key for a 1998 to 2002 without changing the module if that helps. not sure about the newer ones
  22. I wish I had gotten an extended warranty. I had to pay to have my transmission replaced right after the warranty expired. I would have it checked by an independent shop - ask around for recommendations. Then if they find anything, you can take it in to the dealer for repair. Good Luck! if your in or around the west coast, wiessach performance is a good bet, a little expensive, but thorough. Scan automotive in North Van are really good for anything porsche, I would call them first.
  23. yeah it sounds like the same thing, its not constant, but if i let the clutch out and the rpms are just above idol i hear it. also when i apply the accelerator lightly up to about 2000 rpms. after this it is either drowned out by the sport exhaust or it stops. i don't hear it in second gear. thanks for the post. :D
