  1. I was wondering what do you do to maintain your car inside and out, Inside: I remove the front and rear floor mats and beat some dirt out before vacuum them. I put them back in when I’m done with the car. I vacuum the inside of the car, under seats and the seats also. Most of the times I use the plastic wand to keep from scratching the leather and plastic. I like to wipe down the whole inside of the car with a damp microfiber cloth, I like to use a little soap to wash the cloth once in a while to remove the dirt it pick up. No sense washing the car with a dirty rag. I use Meguiar’s leather cleaner and conditioner. I use a clean microfiber cloth to spread it out, I also don’t like to spray to much it gets on everything. I use Armor All on the plastic. Most of the time I use a small rag and spray the rag. On my 996 I use the vacuum and the plastic wand to vacuum out the leaves that get sucked on the front radiator vents. New is a new one for me. I open the hood (front) and user Armor All on all the plastic covers. Outside I first spray the tires with engine degreaser (Purple Power) and scrub them with a stiff brush then rinse them off before I start on the car. I do need to find brush or something to clean out the wheel studs holes. what a pain. I like to wet the whole car down to cool it off before I start to wash it, and I don’t like to wash it during the hot time of day. I live in south Florida so most of the times I’m washing the car at 8PM. I wet my washing mit and put soap on it and use that to wash the car. I don’t like to use the soap in the pail, I don’t like the idea of washing the car with dirty water. When I’m done washing the outside of the car I open the doors and wash the edge, and wipe down all the rubbers seals to remove dirt. I use Back to Black on all the black plastic parts I use a small rag, a old sock works really good. I use Purple Power to clean the engine and engine bay. And using another rag I also wash some of the engine parts. I wipe down the Windshield wipers with soap and water again to remove the dirt. I like to use a Meguiar’s paste wax once a year and a Meguiar’s spray on wax a few times a year. I wash all the glass with Windex and wipe it down with news paper. I was reading that you can use 0000 steel wool pad and Vinegar. I have not tried this yet but they say it works very well. What do you do that works really well? I’m wondering if there is something to use on the rubber gaskets to keep them soft also what can be sprayed on the engine to make it look shiny but not something that will eat away at the rubber. Thanks
  2. Ok now I'm trying to fix the AC on my friends 99 996. Keep in mind the car was taken apart when he bough it, the car was in boxes so we are not sure what is missing or whats extra. I installed the old compressor, I did a vacuum test on it. It held the -25 psi vacuum with no problem I put oil and Freon but it did not cool the compressor would turn on I would see the clutch engaged but it never got cool. I check the high side and low side and the same pressure on both sides the compressor was not compressing. today he bought a new compressor and the same thing. same pressure on the low and high side. when I was putting in the engine and I was bolting things up I noticed a small white plastic things in one of the AC pipes above the engine that had a small hole in it, I'm guessing that's the orifice tube but I see a expansion valve in the front. which one should it be using it can't use both right? Any Idea what it could be. Should I try to take that white thing out of the line?
  3. 900 g is 31.7 oz right. I just put in 22oz in my friend’s 99 996 and it was not getting cold at all. he was told the car took 24 oz I would think with 22oz it would cool some. I see the compressor kicking on and running but still nothing, I'm guessing it still needs more.
  4. Thanks I think I'm going to get the OEM mats.
  5. They look really good, I may be taking a drive.
  6. You have a point! You know a good friend of mine asked why I did not Vette, I'm not sure why I think cause it's a Vette.
  7. WOW. I went today to a shop in Miami and was quoted $831.39 for 1 cut key and two fob heads and programing. Key Coding and programing: $250.00 1 X Cut Key: $149.00 2 x Key fob $378 I understand we drive a nice car but come one $830 for car keys! I'm going to order the keys now (keysinthepost.com). thanks
  8. WOW this is good to know I need to call Sunset and have them cut a key for me.
  9. I cant see the pictures all I see is (-), whats wrong?
  10. I'm looking for new floor mats for my 2000 I had the Lloyd custom floor mats and they are great but they show wear pretty quick. I was thinking about getting the OEM ones if I can still find them. Which ones are you using? Now my drivers seat is looking a little worn its not to bad but I would like to get it fixed before it starts to look bad. Anyone you recommend or have used in South Florida? Interior Thanks Ruben
  11. I'm with you on this. My friends 99 has the same plug sitting on the side not plugging into anything. Oh his car he does have a little slot on the right side behind the O2 sensor plugs.
  12. I would check the muffler hangers that bolts on the side of the heads. if mounted the engine to the transmission when the transmission was in the car I would make sure you did not pinch a wire when doing that.
  13. Front bearings? Brake caliper lose, Bushings. Try this. drive at a few miles per hour then stop hard. then back up see if it pops when you back up? if it does then have someone stand by the car do it again. I once worked on a car that would only do it in the morning. when backing up out of the drive way. one that one it as front week bearing they would stick being parked all night but during the day it was fine.
  14. I just did a by=pass on my friends 99 and it rounds really good when you step on it but just driving around its pretty quite.
  15. I just bought my 996 last Friday and it only had one key and the remote does not unlock or lock the doors I can use the key. I see the light blink when I hit the button, but unlike my friends when he unlock the car his blinks rapidly not just one blink. What shops are you guys taking the car to get the key programed? I called a shop in Miami and they said it can only be the dealer I called the dealer and they want $600 for a new key. So far I have done the following. I replaced the battery – I put the battery in backwards – started the car and hit the lock unlock button. I’m going to try to remove the cars battery and check the fuse on the control box under the seat.
  16. I think when ever possible one should use what the OEM uses. the way I look at it. if the OEM part lasted 10 years then I guess I will get another 10 years of a new OEM part. Of course if there is a problem with the OEM part and they aftermarket has a fix for it then go aftermarket. Thanks. I think it's the regulator but I thought it came with the motor.Good you have the right thinking. You had me worried when you mentioned pepboys :)No, the motor is a separate part which is like $400+ I would like to find a local shop to give my business too, I don't like to order everything via the Internet. I need to start looking for a few local shops to buy supplies. I have seen online the prices for the regulator, I will be getting that soon. Oh I have a questions. when I open the passenger side door the glass does not go down the 10MM or so the glass hits the top of the rain channel, could that be caused by the bad regulator? Not sure. Maybe someone else can chime in. I think there's a micro-switch behind the door handle (inside the door) that activates the lowering feature when the door handle is pulled. At least that's how I think it works. Yes I did read about that, I think I will look into the micro switch when I replace the regulator.
  17. It has 61500 or so miles on it now. Adding plugs to my list. what are the tubes and O-rings. Remember new to Porsche's. Yes I have seen how much keys are. but I have to have one good working key. Plus its a Porsche you want to play you have to pay.

  20. Hello I drove home my new 2000 996 hardtop. Wow I love the car. This is the first car I have ever owned and it’s amazing I have always driven SUV's. I am starting a list of things that I need to fix and do, and I would like your opinion on what I should do and use. I'm not sure how it was maintained before, but it looks to be very well maintained but who really knows, I would like to do a few things but I’m not sure what fluids would be recommended and where I can get them, I’m not sure if Advanced Auto or Pep Boys would carry something I can use. Well here is my list of little things in no particular order plus a few big things. As always thanks for your opinion. New floor mats and trunk mat. (I'm looking at Porsche OEM mats and a Lloyd trunk mat)Remove old tints.Install new tints.A Second key with working remote.Fix the 1st key to remote lock and unlock car.Clean up head lights.Change antifreeze.Change brake fluid.IMS bearing. Just in case.Change 12 volt power outlet. On order!Replace air filter.Replace cabin filter.Change oil and filter. I think the window motor on the passenger side has seen better days, I think that will be at the top of the todo list soon, it’s making noise and the window does not go down very far when you open the door and it hits the molding.
  21. On my todo List. Is the clear coat spray?
  22. I would like to know this also the 996 I'm buying on Friday has a sun roof, WOW 2K to fix it I don't think I will be using it very often.
  23. I have already learned quite a bit about the IMS problem, I think that will be the first thing I do to the 2000 996 I'm going to buy. I I'm not sure what Bore scoring is I guess I have more to read. Oh I do have a ton of questons but I will be searching and reading. Thanks for the welcome. Glad to be here and looking forward to what lies ahead.
  24. Hello I have been part of other forums over the years and I have seen someone new get beaten down by the masses for posting a picture or asking a question, I understand a little kidding around and good clean fun but give us a break. I’m new to this forum and Porsche’s but I would like to learn more about the Porsche I own and the people that own, fix and enjoy them as I hope to for years. I have always enjoyed working on my toys from my BMX bike when I was a kid to my 900RR speed bike and everything else I have owned over the years. I know from time to time I may post a simple stupid question that is common knowledge to all of you but not to someone new, I just hope that my question are not seen as stupid but more as someone that would like to learn more. By the way the car is coming along really well, I drove it around yesterday. I have to replace the front and rear brakes and the cam timing is a little off and the top working at all. Newbie working on learning more and having fun every step of the way.
