  1. Actually i was referring to the official centres. The CRC is a check to ensure that the car's software hadn't been tampered with. Its a calculation of various factors that give a result meaning if the car does not report back the value expected, then its a sure fire way of confirming the DME had been 'adjusted' outside of manufacturers spec's. Trouble is, you'd effectively be telling porsche something that ordinarily people would want to keep hush hush about. Best of luck. Popolou
  2. Well, you could always ask porsche to test the contents of the DME to see whether the CRC checks out. Mind you, its almost like shooting yourself in the foot, but can't see any other way apart from confirming the details with your own eyes at the shop you got the firmware from. Popolou
  3. IIRC, there is a working bulb in the other lamp cluster. But i think Loren is on the money when he says to hook it up to the PIWIS. Regards Popolou
  4. Could you explain how the device operates with the PCM if it doesn't utilise the telephone module? Is it as i suspect that enabling the PCM for the phone as per the cd changer for the MP3 functionality is required from the dealers? This could be interesting. Regards Popolou
  5. Well, if i may throw my 2p in this. Isn't the GPS antenna for the PCM located inside the cabin by the screen and under the sun sensor? Also, isn't the radio antenna within the windscreen? I think you'll be alright. Regards Popolou
  6. Actually, testing a bettery is best done when its under load. It might show up as a full 12v when you hook a multimeter across it, but if a bettery has already suffered, it might fail under the moment you crank the motor. You may be able to take it to a shop where they have equipement to do this because it could start to become somewhat precarious. Regards Popolou
  7. Guys, Would defer to experienced knowledge on clutches here. I may be imagining this, but it seems to occur almost everytime i jump in for a ride. I've begun to notice that the biting point on the clutch is varying from mid-way when cold to closer to the top of the travel when warmed-up to normal operating temp. Can this even be possible? :unsure: I'm aware that both brakes and clutch utilise the same resevoir and that it's very close to the minor service (necessitating brake fluid replacement) however, i have the sneeky feeling its unrelated.   8. Hey mate, Missed out on your posts, but yes you are quite correct: there is a revised piston out there now. A brief conversation i had with Porsche Customer Assistance a while back confirmed that a few of the fixes aren't doing what they are meant to. Something about pushing the tolerances on the revised part a bit further. Regards Popolou
  9. The inspection cover is opened by pushing down on a plastic tab protruding underneath it. Because the whole unit is carpeted, its not easily noticed where it seperates but the first time you do it it becomes all too obvious. Regards Popolou
  10. I don´t really know what PSE or DME is but on the 996 you you could bypass one pin from the sport exhaust relay and you were able to switch between loud and "silent". The sport exhaust is very recomandable (for Germany) but in sport mode it´s very silent between 30 and 70km/h. I did´t order Sport Chrono... Just remove and plug the vacuum hoses to the exhaust actuators. Regards Popolou

You might want to check with them these two further warranty items: - W610 - Cd's jamming and stopping PCM operation 1726 - Screeching Noise From The Engine During Warm-up (Campaign item) The last item will not be carried out unless the customer requests it. Its is a known fault with the oil piston relief valve that vibrates in its chamber at approx 2,200 rpm on the warm up cycle. You'll need to hold the revs at this point specifically to cath it out.   12. Sounds like the shock has failed. Take the car to the deailer where they will hook it up to the diagnostic equipment and tell you whats going on. Its likely to be a warranty fix so first call is with them. Regards Popolou

Here's the snap i took of the engine bay when i was investigating whether the neccessary gubbins were there for the PSE: - As you can see, the standard change-over valve is located between cylinders 2/3 and the 2-pin harness thats meant to be behind the RHS branch of the intake manifold isn't there (at least, i couldn't find it). I suspect, and if wizard263789 wants to come back to me on this, it could be very well hidden down there so its possible that it may exist, but i couldn't spot it. Towards the back, you'll see that the lifting eye already has a hose attached to it. According to the TSB, that (occupied) screw hole is meant to support the electric change-over valve. It therefore seems that there are a number of differences between the 3.2 and 3.4 blocks beyond merely capacity. My car is in for a little recall work but will confirm with them that there is no PSE option within the DME for a MY06 car. If that's the case then it should put to rest the issue of anything prior to an MY07 car going for the full install of the the PSE (DME and all) but, and as already posted, you shouldn't have any trouble installing the mechanicals and leaving out the vaccum lines.   14. Since i last post on this, i've had the chance to open up the engine bay and take a peek around for the neccessary lines. I've found that there is indeed a standard change-over valve (where you connect into the vaccum system) however located between cylinders 2-3 as opposed to 1-2 in the TSB. Removing it, it's very likely that you can plumb into to get a vaccum line to the electric change-over valve as part of the PSE kit. The only trouble i noticed was that i couldn't find the 2-pin harness that was meant to be connected to a dummy block found underneath the scavenge pump. It's this cable that connects to the electric change-over valve. Also, the change-over valve is meant to be connected to a lower point on the engine hoist as per the TSB again, but the space is already occupied by a large breather pipe. I'll try and upload those photos i took of my MY06 987s. Regards Popolou
  15. Popolou, what "button" are your referring to? If you mean the Sport Chrono button, I have one of those from the factory, since my car was ordered with Sport Chrono (option code # 639). You say that the shop couldn't plumb the lines so i assumed that the Sports chrono option wasn't ticked. If this is not the case, would you kindly elaborate on this then. Are you saying that the neccessary gubbins to actuate the valves are not in place for any pre MY07 as evident by your install? Cheers Popolou
  16. I take it you didn't have the button spec'd from factory? Thanks for the offer but being in the UK, there is always a thick layer of tape to cut through before you even get remotely close to what you want :(. I seem to be getting the same responses from the OPC's here. Regards Popolou
  17. I recall reading an article in a recent 911 & Porsche world on the issue of ECU upgrades where they can alter the response curve on the throttle and other DME related items. I suspect that all in all, a different set of parameters are loaded at the press of a button on factory cars. As to whether this is already pre-loaded in each DME in cars delivered without the button is uncertain but apparently the amount of adjustment is infinite with these aftermarket products.   18. I don't suppose you would know why porsche are making life difficult for pre MY07 owners wanting the PSE? Apparently there is an issue somwhere with the install but i have heard nothing on why that is. Rumours abound that it's a DME thing, while i also hear its about emissions. It;s something i want to try myself but unfortunately there is little guidance out there on this hurdle. Regards Popolou
  19. I hope so too, but if you haven't come across it then i think its safe to say its early days yet. Mind you, i'm a little doubtful if there is actually much space either side, unless those 987 dash side trims (either side of the stock guages) are removed prior to fitting. Cheers Popolou
  20. Just about a bargain :D Actually, i too heard something like this. Each time the PIWIS is hooked up to the (MY06+) car the technician must transmit the info to PCNA before work is carried out, or something like that anyway. I recall someone mentionning Panorama quoting this. Regards Popolou
  21. This is something i've always pondered when jumping into the drivers seat. Is it really as simple as R&R the guages and expect the ECU to operate the extra dials? Now that would be very interesting. Regards Popolou
