  1. Who's your indy shop in the Chicago area? Fischer Motors in Lake Barrington would be good for you. FYI.
  2. Interesting- seems really high for a car that is now 3 model years old- that would indicate a fairly low depreciation factor. Of course, its also asking prices, which I presume would be 10-15 % higher than what could be negotiated Thanks They might have been CPO'd too. That costs the dealership about $2,800 plus profit. Like you said, everything's negotiable. Good luck on your hunt.
  3. Further, I did a quick search on the Porsche web site. Looking for 2012.5 base 991 within 500 miles of Chicago, there were only 2 cars listed. Both were $75,000 plus.
  4. You will find a car, but not at that low of a price. A base 991 with low options is still a $100 new. They quickly depreciate, but not that much in 1-2 years. You might be able to find a 2012.5 base 991 in that price range with the 2015's coming out now. The 991 is a great car. I picked-up my 2014 C2S Cabriolet with PowerKit (X51) in March. Did just under 11,000 miles this summer. In storage now for winter.
  5. Also check your coolant cap. The updated blue cap ends in part number "04". Check your oil cap for tell tale signs of intermix. Stop driving the car until you get this sorted out.
  6. Why a Peirburg pump? Should have used OE Porsche ($299 with gasket). And you don't need Water Wetter in a street car, especially a street car with coolant. Water Wetter is for track cars (for easier clean-up by track personnel after dropping fluids on the track and safer for your track buddies) that run straight distilled water, no coolant. Good job on the DIY!
  7. 20 (book) hours is the number I usually see, too.
  8. I wouldn't drop the motor just for the sensor. Maybe in the future, if other, major, work is required. Just ignore the gauge. Monitor your oil level. And change it with the correct volume every 5,000 miles, or yearly. I know there's no dipstick on a 2001 but does it have a functioning low oil indicator light of some sort? If so, go by that. If the low oil level indicator comes on, add 1/4 litre to 1/2 litre until the lights goes off. Motor on. Rinse & repeat.
  9. Use OE Porsche parts. You don't need an "upgraded" part since you are not increasing power. As for a lightweight flywheel, I'd pass on a 996 that's a daily driver like yours. Stick to stock.
  10. Use a battery maintainer. Don't pull the battery. Over inflate tires to 55-58 PSI. Cover car. Park on a thick mil plastic painter's tarp. Suspend some of your insurance to save $$$. Use desiccant in cabin and frunk/trunk.
  11. Use your gauge to set the accurate pressures. Use the TPMS to monitor any significant changes as it relates to safety and such.
  12. I use Mobil 5W50. Porsche approved. Drive April till October. In hibernation Nov-March. Great UOA's.
  13. If you park the car with the turn signal engaged, it will illuminate the parking likes on that selected side, and give you an audible warning. Possibly your model also gives you that dash notice, too. This is a safety feature for European owners who park on small narrow streets.
  14. Are you parking car, and turning off engine with the turn signal engaged?
  15. Normal. Flat 6 design. A puff of smoke, on cold start-up, that quickly clears, is n o r m a l.
  16. Chris, what gear lube are you going to use? Mobil Delvac 75W90 or OE Porsche 75W90 would be good choices. Good luck with the gearbox repair. U R A brave man!:)
  17. Should have never sold the 993. You can buy two 997 for the price of a good widebody 993 today. My concern would be if he maintained the oil change interval per Porsche's recommendation. Every 12,000 miles or every 20,000 miles is WAY too long. Have the plugs been replaced? Serpt. belt? Has the water pump been changed yet? Thermostat? And I think you are confusing two different weakspots. The IMSB (intermediate shaft bearing) and the RMS (rear main seal- more of a 996/986 issue).
  18. That report is fine. The over-revs in Range 1 & 2 or normal from strong accelerations into the rev-limiter. The 4 ignitions in Range #3 are not a big deal since they also happened about 466 hours ago (I'd guess about 15,000 miles......466 hours x 32 mph average).
  19. You should be able to show 4 different matrics on the Multi Function Display. I display, coolant temp, oil temp, oil pressure and time/distance to destination. The set-up is with the PCM. Just change one of your current displays in the drop-down menu.
  20. My 991S has the 3rd radiator since it has the PowerKit option. All I can add is that the car always runs very cool, even when pushing it in the summer heat.
  21. Julie: Yes, you need a better mechanic. Ask her on Renntech for a place near your home/office, or ask on Rennlist.com. Or, network with people in your local Porsche Club. Pulling on braking can be a few thing, including: 1) tires, worn, inproper inflation, etc 2) Alignment 3) Bad motor mounts 4) Suspension parts 5) Frame damage
