Power Windows Erratic Behavior

Recommended Posts

Hi All,:)

Does anyone think this is normal? On occasions, my driverside window will reverse its movement, usually half way of the travel, for no reason at all.:( This happens when when I flip the window switch to its second notch to activate the auto open or close. As for the passenger side, have not seen it happened.

Thanks for your input...

Thanks Loren, but I think this is different from what is happening to my diver side window. As a matter of fact, it happened again this afternoon.

I pressed the rocker switch up to the second stage to activate the one touch close. The window started to travel to the closed position, but about over half way, it decided to reverse its travel to the open position. After the window stopped, I pressed the rocker switch up again to the second stage but this time it did not move automatically up. I had to hold the rocker switch up to the second stage in order too close the window.

The strange thing is the window now closes and opens fine with the one-touch operation after driving a few miles... :drive:

But did you try the process?

Sorry I didn't. :( But will do this afternoon when I get home. However, I will not remove the door panel and mess things up. The car is almost two months old and I would rather have the dealer do that, if necessary. I will let you know what happens. Thanks for you help... :)

Hi Loren,

The window (driver side) acted up again; this time I tired your process. I held (10 sec) the switch both up and down from the second stage. This didn't work; the window would go up with one touch then come right back down just as it reaches the top. So this time I held the switch for 10 sec from the first stage. This seemed to work. Do you hold the switch for 10 seconds on the first stage or second stage?

If I can't fix this for good, then a trip to my trusty dealer may be coming. Thanks again for your help.

You hold the switch down for 10 seconds after a full upward movement and then you do the same for a full downward movement.

Okay, but do you hold the switch on the first stage (first click) or second stage (second click - on-touch operation)? Thanks

I have the same problem (with both windows) on my 4S. I tried "the process" and it did nothing to improve the random failure of the full open/close function. I figure I will live with it until my first service then have it fixed.

Well, I kept trying the process on and off between last Friday and this past Monday morning. Lo and behold, by noon on Monday, the driver side window was acting properly. No matter how I played with it, the window closed or opended all the way using the one-touch click. I guess you have to reinforce the training... :jump:

Ha. My driver's side window appears to be working now. I'll keep 'reinforcing' the passenger window and see if I can get it properly trained!

Good to hear that. Just keep training it until it gets it...

  • 2 weeks later...
  • 4 years later...

I have the same problem with my 2006 CS4 - driver side - noticed it after 4 weeks of non driving ( battery fine ) . Took a few goes but finally I turned off the ignition and gave it a break and then trained again - seems to have worked - now just wonder how long it will last for.
