Door Window Movement when opening/closing door

Recommended Posts

checked for codes and found none yet when opening or closing the door on Pass. side the window does not have that little up and down movement. I also noticed the interior lite does not actuate on that side of car? locks work fine- thanks Mark

Sounds like you have a problem. As I understand it, there is a microswitch in the door handle that senses the door being opened and drops the window enough to open the door.

Thanks Vipe...I'm not sure yet as I've gone through all the posts on the subject. Interestingly, there have been several mentions of the "pinch movement "failure yet I've not succeeded in finding the answer. checked the reg. and it's tight and retaught the switch too?

It really sounds like a sensing issue. I would check with Loren or Toolpants to get a schematic of where in the door that switch is located. I'd bet that its corroded if this is a daily driver for ya. Even if its not, there may be enough corrosion to cause a failure. Its also possible that there was a mechanical failure of the switch itself but I'm more likely to believe corrosion. Shouldn't be too difficult to diagnose once you find the switch itself.

I just fixed a similar problem. My driver's window would come down (about half an inch) if I opened the door from the interior handle; it would come down if I opened the door with the exterior handle, but it would immediately rise again once I released the exterior handle. If that is what's happening, then you need to replace the door latch (which contains the switch that controls that feature).

I bought the part from Sunset Porsche for about $87, but it is a real pain to install. You will need to take apart the door panel, and I found that you also have to take the door handle apart as well in order to align the lock "arm" with the latch so that your key will open and close the door (Loren can provide you with the instructions). The passenger door does not have a key lock so it should be more simple to install, but I still think you need to take apart the handle in order to unlatch/attach the necessary parts. If you're handy, you should be able to do it yourself. Otherwise, I was quoted $600 to replace it at my local Porsche dealer.

Hi I also had the same thing a quick way to test it is to open the door use a screwdriver the actuate/close the catch to simulate the door being shut then pull the outer handle to check its actuator, which cannot be seen less removing the door panel and interior lining, then check the interior one the same way. you can see the interior handle switch use a flashlight and with the door open pull on the int. handle then look behind it towards its hinge point you will see a small rectangular thing with a 1/8" pin/protrusion. That is the switch if niether one works you may have an elec. issue. Good Luck with it. Jim
