MP3's and the in dash CD player?

Recommended Posts

I read this in the specs for the Boxster (posted in the Auto Mall USA)...

-Manufacturer's own RDS audio system with digital radio and CD player CD player reads MP3

Am I missing something here, does the CD have to be in a specific format for this to work?

And the catch is..... PCM.

In a way they are correct, but in the same way they are wrong. The only system they sell that supports MP3 is the full PCM kit. Again, only MY05 onwards plays MP3's too. It seems those cars prior to this date AND with PCM aren't able to do it either. :(

Ahhh, that figures, if I am ever able to order a new p-car it sure would be nice to have all of this spelled out because as you know adding some of this later can way too expensive! <_<

The caveat is you have to have a PCM unit made after some time in March/April/May of 2005 (forget which one..) the TSBs online here have more information.
