Nubee Questions

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Please forgive the nubee questions.

I recently purchased a 2002 996 TT Tiptronic.

What ECU Flash/Chip do you recommend? Is this something that I can install myself or do I have to take it to a shop?

What exhaust system do you recommend?

Can you recommend and tuner shops in NJ or NY?

THANKS!!!!!!

Welcome to the forum!

I have a 2003 TT 6speed and had a GIAC flash done. I had to take it to the GIAC dealer, and it was done while I ate lunch across the street. The new power is amazing. It's like a whole now car. I also added a Fabspeed medium sport exhaust. This may not be to your taste as it is pretty loud. It does resonate at 2300 rpm, but I added sound deadening material under the rear carpet which tamed the noise inside the car. All in all, I am very happy with the exhaust, no check engine lights, no problems.

Exhaust sound is a very personal thing, one person loves the sound of a particular exhaust, another hates it. The only way to be sure to get what you like is to listen to various systems and pick the one you like. You need to hear it run on the car, not just on a sound clip. Good Luck!

Just to add one more newbie question...if you complete the GIAC ECU flash are there any other components other than exhaust (I have an upgraded exhaust) that should be considered for upgrading (DV, hoses, etc.?)?

Thanks!

For PM sake...the DVs are recommended. Hoses are usually recommended as you increase hp (beyond stage 2). Plugs should be considered. BTW I would check out Ultimate Motrowerks for Kevin's handheld flasher...for the ECU.
