Onboard computer question...

Recommended Posts

Recently I got my onboard computer activated (thanks to Mr. Tool Pants). However, since I got no stem switch for it, I initially planned to add a dip-switch, using Pelican Parts DIY hack. But since I'm only really interested in one function -- the remaining gas miles -- I'm wondering if it's perhaps possible to switch thru the functions using the PST2 tool (or whatever it's called). As of now, it's parked at the outside temperature, a function that I'm not interested in. When it was activated, I tried to get it set right away to the gas miles entry, but somehow ran out of time.

Any help appreciated,

there should be 4 loose wires (the wires that you would connect to the back of the toggle switch to do the Pelican Parts hack). if you touch the ends of two of the wires together, you should be able to cycle through the OBC 'pages' (functions). don't worry, there isn't enough electricity flowing thru the wires to kill ya. ;)

once you get to the function you want (miles left) tape the ends up until you are ready to install the toggle switch.

With the PST2 there are 2 choices. OBC present or not present. When you change it to "present" the default display is the outside temp. I do not know of any PST2 function to make it show a different OBC display, such as miles remaining in the gas tank.

If you want the default display to be miles remaining I think it can be done by running a single wire from the instrument cluster connector to ground. No retrofit of a switch or stalk would be necessary.
