Tops - Price differences

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I was wondering if anybody has a clue about the huge price differences between what it looks like two good quality tops. One, made by GAHH, goes for $1,200 and up while the other, made by Topsonline is only $550. From the little I have read om them both are decent or better. It does not make a lot of sense. Am I missing something?

You can find the GAHH at http://www.gahh.com/product_info.php?cPath...products_id=301

You can find the Topsonline at... http://www.topsonline.com/index.php?Depart...;CarmodelID=888

I purchased my top from tops on line and was very happy with the quality. I also got the Charcoal plastic tinted window in the back at that time. The tint is about 20%. Really looks great if you want to tint the rest of your car out. The installer did show me on my factory Oem Porsche top some extra bands of fabric that ran across the top that the tops on line one did not have. He said it was extra support of the canvas. I really can't tell a difference any way at all. Figure about $750-$850 for installation. I called some shops and told them I had my own top and how much would they charge to install. It was cheaper this way, as most of the installers would mark up the top to make some extra coin. Hope this helps you. Good luck!

Your car looks great. I did not consider the tinted windows, but I guess that here in OC they might do a good service. It is always so hot! I have a problem with the top and depending what they find out I might look into replacing it. I also might consider the glass version, at http://www.gahh.com/product_info.php?cPath...roducts_id=1575. A couple of people that got it say good things if you can live with the smaller size. We'll see :)

Have any of you guys found a solution for the 2002 + tops that have the glass rear window...I hate that small window from Gahn, but would like to know of something less expensive than factory that has the glass window?

Thanks,

Also,

Russ, I ordered what I think are the silver pedals that you have....didn't you say ebay? If I remember correctly, yours said "porsche" on the dead pedal....did you add a decal yourself.

Thanks

Russ,

Thanks, I found your pedals at the revozsport website..250!!!...you got a good deal. The ones I ordered are the same w/o Porsche written on them...they also have rubber grippie things in each hole.

I called the tint guy today...looking for an appointment soon. Thanks for the name.

Attache is a picture of my new decal....what you think?

That looks pretty cool. Good idea there. About the tint, don't go to light. Being that you car is black, your tint will look lighter anyway because it will be right next to Black...showing the clear diff in darkness. For example, my car is grey...therefore the grayish black tint looks kind of dark, where on your car it want look as dark because your car is black. Also you car has the light gray int, and that always makes tint look lighter. I'm afraid if you go with the 50% it will not look tinted at all. IMO.

As I understand it, GAHH is the OEM for the original equipment top on the Porsche. When I had to replace mine, both the dealer and the upholstery shop to which they sent me told me that the only difference (other than $1000+) was that the GAHH top was stitched around the back window, and the OEM top was not.

I went for the savings, since it was a delaminated back window that sent me there in the first place. I cannot tell any differences other than the stitching.
