aftermarket air grills?

Recommended Posts

Every time I wash my car I marvel at how much I dislike the front bumper air intakes for the two radiators. They are discolored and ugly. Does anyone make an shiny/happy replacement that still allows for proper cooling?

Not long ago, I felt the same way about the discoloration. I removed the bumper cover to clean the radiators. While there, I removed and cleaned all the black plastic parts including wheel well liners. I then painted them with Krylon. Now they look very good. Still don't like the shape too much - I'd like to get a bumper cover like one of the GT models.

There are options.

Thanks for the input. I'm not novice to the uses of good paint, I am know to re-vinal and paint anything! This may be the best solution if I don't find any classy "bling" for that grill area.

Some nice aluminum honeycomb would work.

I used to sell cut and rubber lined grille mesh for the front bumper of "S" and "non-S" Boxsters 1997-2003, and the side air vents of MY1997-2004. I made them in both silver aluminum and black powdercoated aluminum. I have spare sheet metal, but some others already sell them for cheaper than I care to make for on eBay. Just do a search for "boxster grill" or "boxster grille" and you should find them.

I was the first to offer on eBay, but since then a couple of stores that make grilles undercut my fun little operation. Some pics below.

Also, if you want to try different styles, www.customcargrills.com has sheet mesh for sale...just make sure you have some tin snips and you purchase the neoprene rubber trim from them for the sharp edges. That was where I got all my supplies. I even made some for the rear diffusors that I just installed.

Mine were both crappy and I just bought new ones from the dealer they were about $68 for the pair and taking off the bumper is no big deal either. I looked at aftermarket stuff but it doesn't quite look right IMO... It seems to stuck on kinda thing for me. Either way whatever floats your boat.
