I have a 2000 C2 Coupe, 50,000 miles, the red airbag light just came on for the first time today. I have had no previous problems, and as far as I know, the bags have never been deployed. The manual states that the airbag structrue should be checked by a dealer over certain periods of time. One of those times is 8 years, so could this just be a timed or set indicator so that it gets checked, or what else could be happening. I have only had the car for about 6 months. Thank you in advance.

Get the fault code first, my car had the air bag light and it was the driver safety buckle. I just clean the switch with contact cleaner inside the buckle, clear the code, gone , no problem since 6 month.

Thanks, like I said I am a new owner, is the only way to check fault codes with the scanner that shops or dealers use?

I only know of two or three tools that will clear an airbag code.

The least expensive is the Durametric Software (about $255) next would be a PST2 (about $3300 used), a Baum Tool (about $4000 for the one that will rest Porsche airbags), or a PIWIS factory tool (about $18,000/year leased).

I have a PST2 and many other members have a PST2 or Durametirc software - so perhaps one of us can help you out.

Where are you located?

Sorry to not respond sooner, but I was away on business and unable to. I am located in Castro Valley. My mechanic, who was a former service manager and lead mechanic for Porsche said he can deal with it as I have him doing a few other things. Not much of a DIY person, but nice to read all this as it helps me to learn the car.
