Roeske:

Try using a 5mm socket, extension and ratchet, instead of the headlight removal tool that's in the tool kit. The tool from the tool kit strips fairly easily or more often strips the point of the locking part that you are trying to turn (I think it's called a "clamping bow").

Are you getting any resistance when you are trying to turn it?

If you are positive that you have successfully turned the clamping bow, you may just have to pull with more force to get the headlight to come out, but there's a good chance the clamping bow is not really turning to unlock the housing.

Regards, Maurice.

I had this same problem with mine...

I finally got it out but holding the headlight with one hand wiggling it while using my other hand to gently turn the headlight tool back and forth.

It popped out after a little fiddling. Seems like the release for the headlight some how gets stuck on the head light and wiggling both the release and headlight got it to pop loose.

I have this issue with my right head light every time I take it out.

  • 4 weeks later...

Can the clamping bow be accessed from the wheel well. I am working on a 97 986 and when I pulled back the carpet and looked in the hole there was nothing sticking out. The passenger side one come out fine and with further inspection the horseshoe locking clip was broken casuing the clamping box to be loose. On the driverside it looks like someone jacked it up and pushed the bar through so it can't be reached.
