"Click click" sound trying to start + window weirdness

Recommended Posts

This morning (30 mins ago) I tried to start my 2000 C4, and all it did was give the click, click, click noise. But all electrics seem to work. But while I'm trying to start, the windows on both sides go up/down.

Been trying to search the site for similar problems, but couldnt find any.

First guess is the battery is about to die. It does seem to have a slight lover voltage than usually.

Before calling the shop, I would love to hear any oppinions. If its just the battery, then I can replace that one myself.

Edit:

Well - after a few additional starting attempts, my battery voltage (as reported on the dash) is now at 11 v and dropping slightly for every attempt.

Definitely seems to be the battery. Just super weird about the window going up/down while trying to start

Same symptoms as mine when my battery died. Your alarm will probably go off soon.......

Yeah, I second that...sounds like the battery going.

No, it sounds a lot like poor battery connections due to the corrosive effects of battery vent gasses.

Remove, clean and burnish the battery posts and cable connections, recharge the battery, and make sure the battery gas vent hose is properly connected and routed OUTSIDE.

How old is your battery?? Anything greater than 3 years and your doing well and would point at the battery. If your are seeing a voltage, then the terminals are connected (albeit doesnt have to be well connected as no 'real' current flow), but if you are seeing your battery get less each time, then it is 'going' isnt it???
