Anyone know what this is?

Found this interesting license plate frame on a Cayenne Turbo. The top bracket bar has some kinda gadget that caught my attention; I've circled it in a yellow oval. If you look close you can see what appears to be infared sensors; the one on the right is rectangular, the one to the right a sqare. My initial thought is that it was either a backup camera or a motion sensor. The lenses are red, so I don't think it is the former, and the vehicle had the factory installed backup sensors in the bumper so it would seem redundant for the latter.

So, anyone seen this thing before and know what it is?

My wife's guess is a radar detector; if that is the case I would like to know where to get one for myself.

Looks like a K40 radar detector. http://k40.com/home_main.html

I have one in my car (front and rear detectors) and I also use a Valentine 1. The Val 1 is superior in detection most likely due to the fact that the detectors of the K40 are mounted so low.

For wross996tt: can't see the wiring and that's a great personalized plate!

I was parked 'nose-to-nose' with the Cayman, it had a plate but only a dealer frame (Guadin Porsche of Vegas).

I've been told that nothing works against laser detection; do you guys have any experience that they do?

I really need to pick up one of those Valentine 1; my last speeding ticket was really expensive.

Laser or LIDAR detectors usually go off about the time the nice officer is getting ready to ignite his blue lite special. They usually aim the very narrow beam at the flattest surface, which is often a front license plate. So low mounting might help for light.

LIDAR jamming is not regulated by FCC and most states do not have laws against it. If there were a lot of lasers in use around here, I'd seriously consider it.

That is part of Passport LASER SRX. It is a LASER Shifter that temporarily recieves the LASER signal and for a period of 5 seconds sends back a signal different than the LASER Speed Gun is expecting and confuses the gun to the point is displays erroneous info that the trooper has to ignore. After 5 seconds, (hopefully you have slowed down) the shifter stops, allowing the troopers LASER gun to operate normally. Yes, it works. It has saved my butt at least three times. If you had looked, you would have seen one or two more sensors on the front grill somewhere.

Normally, when you hear or see a LASER threat, it is too late. You have been nabbed. With this, you have about 5 seconds. This interfaces with the Passport 8500 and forms a complete package. This is one way in which the Passport system is superior to the V1. V1 gives you LASER warning but no defense.
