own 1999 2,5 boxster

just serviced on 43000 km

cabin filter changed new oem porsche active carbon

when i swich the engine on with the climatronic on ... mean without stoping air fan

after about 20-30 seconds the engine starts i feel a smell something like exhaust smeling in the cabin comming from the vents of clima the center ones maybe, this smell comming in for about 5-10 seconds and after nothing else happens the vents blow not smelling air. just this after 20-30 seconds after starting and just for 5-10 seconds.

any ideas?

maybe the ventilation airways need cleaning spay ?

maybe the airways collect bacteria ?

dont know what to think thanks michael

Please have some patience - please allow 24 hours for responses to your questions.

Check to see if anything fell into the fan area (under the pollen filter) and if it smells musty then the AC condensor drain may be plugged.

If it is the drain then clear the drain and then run the heater as hot as it will go. It might also help to some disinfectant into the area of the heater core.

Michael:

When you turn on the climate control, on the setting that blows air up onto the windshield, does the windshield fog up a little? or a lot? If so, and if it doesn't clear up, as WVicary said, your heater core may be starting to leak.

If you are getting those symptoms, take a look around the area near the gas pedal for any signs of a drop (or a few drops) of antifreeze. If you see a couple of drops there, it's definitely the heater core. On the positive side, it's one of the easiest parts to access on the Boxster. On the not so positive side, a new heater core lists for about $350 from the dealer.

There is a possibility that a VW Jetta Wagon heater core is the same part, for less than 1/3 the price, but I haven't been able to confirm that they are the exact same part yet.

Regards, Maurice.

maurice thank you

i dont have the symptoms you ask before and the car serviced before 500km for the big maintainance of 40000 km of course it is 7 years old but it was checked well.

the smell is like when the car is cold and smell not burned casolline from the exhaust something like that but only just for 1 or 2 seconds just a quick 1-2 sec smell just this no other symptoms at all. All works fine and not any symptoms
