996 Hood Latch

My understanding is that the silver latches are no longer available - unless you can find a dealer that has some in old stock. Porsche started using electric switches instead in MY2001- on Carrera's. Some folks are spraying them with Wurth Silver Wheel paint then with Wurth Clear Coat Wheel paint. There is a DIY in my DIY section here.

thanks loren....how do the new switches look?

i may be able to find an old latch assembly in a "salvage yard".....do you have part numbers for the housing and latch assembly?

Im gonna have to get some of the wurth paint anyway.....i like the idea of possibly touching up some of my accessories with that color...ooops ....i see another weekend project!

Has anyone tried the new Krylon ® Fusion on any parts to get the silver color. inclusive of the hood latches. It seems if you do not have anything to match than any shade of silver would be acceptable and only subjective to the individual.

My two cents...

:offtopic:

Mr. RXbox could you post your dimensions for your viewing hole.

ohh....sorry

wide part (closest to seatback) 25 3/4 inches

narrow part (closest to tail)21 1/4inches

sides 11inches

the tapered sides of the window falls within the two troughs that are already molded into the engine cover......

real important.....the window i cut was 1 inch wider than the opening on each side...so i could rivet the sides down onto the engine cover

i did have a problem of cutting to much toward the tail end...the lexan being straight and the cover being curved toward the back....well i had to use filler....so you may want to cut little short of 11 inches

and!!!!! i started the opening at the seatback side about i inch away from the center of the center lock bolt

good luck

ric
