Losing radio audio settings intermittently

Recommended Posts

On my 2003 996 with the Bose radio setup, I am losing the audio settings (Bass, Treble, etc) intermittently. Radio presets are still there, but those other settings seem to go missing. Anyone have any idea what the possible culprit could be?

Also, if I wanted to go with a PCM to replace the radio, ac, etc... what particular PCM revision will work? 1.0, 2.0, 2.1, etc.

Thanks for any help.

You have the CDR-23 Gremlins.

On my 03 Box I had the same issues, plus my radio would freeze up. I had the Hi-Fi system which is similar to Bose in that it has an Amp in the front trunk. These Amps have know issues. They replaced my Amp two times and my head unit once. the freeze ups stopped but I would still intermittently lose my sound settings.

I believe it has something to do with the MOST bus system, because when they replaced my head unit all of my radio station presets were there, and I do mean ALL of them. At first I thought I had a great Service Tech, but after a little digging I found out that via the MOST bus the presets are stored on the computer (or maybe it was the diagnostic tool). I think that every once in awhile there is a "miscommunication" and the sound settings go to default.

Thanks for the info... figured as much with the head unit... I've had the amp replaced before due to power on/off constantly happening. I can live with some audio presets disappearing for awile until I find a good deal on a PCM system.

FYI: I've fixed complete head unit lockups before by removing the fuse and re-inserting it for the head unit. Seems to fix it for the time being.

Gremlins to be sure.....
