Wheel paint touch-up

I have a very small 0.25 inch square chip on my wheel. I have purchased Wurth wheel lacquer, but was wondering if I should attempt mask and spray this area, or spray some paint into a cup and use a touch up brush. Has anybody done any minor wheel touch-up and could recommend a process?

I know there is an article in this forum, but that's more about using bondo on a rim scrape.

Ok, this is good. Using paint thinner to remove overspray will avoid the issue I had with spraying the parts of the wheel that are not damaged.

I guess this may be a silly question, but will lacquer thinner affect the original paint at all, or is it safe to use?

Yes, lacquer will damage paint so be careful using it. It will take off the clear coat for sure and likely the base color if you rub.

Just to be clear, the thinner will damage even the factory wheel paint? - Simon

Yes, unless you wipe it off immediately.
