My first post although I've been checking in from time to time for a while now.

Well the check engine light came on on my 99 C2. The scanner says P1531 which is "camshaft adjustment Bank 1". The car idles poorly but runs just fine off idle so I'm thinking it may be variocam related. No other error codes such as TPS show up so hopefully it's just a cam position sensor rather than something mechanical ($$$) inside the motor. Anyone run into this one before? I have an appointment at the dealer next week but would appreciate any input. Having just finished paying for my sons university education ($$$$$$$) I'm hoping for a "reasonable" repair bill if such a thing exists with these cars.

Any and all input is much appreciated.

Colin

P1531 is an open connection on the camshaft sensor connection. Likely causes (according to the manual) are a loose or broken sensor wire, no power to sensor, or faulty DME relay. Porsche did have some problems with the Hall sensors on early cars so I wouldn't rule that out.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply Loren, I'll check that out and see what I can see. I'm very relieved that it doesn't sound like anything major. In the mean time, given that this kind of info is absolutely priceless as far as I'm concerned I've just popped over and donated to the maintainance of this site. Feeling kind of guilty that I haven't done so already actually.

Thanks again

Colin
