I compared the MSRP of my '04 C2 (arctic, full leather, 18" wheels, PSM, power seats, Bose, xenons, colored wheel caps, mats) to a 997.

997 = $77,770

996 = $79,930

997 base MSRP is $69,300 ($700 more than 996), but 18" wheels ($1,435) and PSM ($1,235) are included, Bose is $1,390 ($235 less), full leather is $3,315 ($35 more), and colored wheel caps are $185 ($10 more), so 997 total of $77,770 is $2,160 less than 996. FYI--power seats ($1,550), xenons ($1,090) and mats ($115)are unchanged.

Plus the 997 includes Homelink (not offered on 996), wipers rain sensor (only offered bundled with self dimming mirrors for $705 on 996), and footwell lighting ($735 on 996) as standard equipment.

Of course, the discount on the 996 will surely be greater than on the 997--at least initially.
