Question about the 19" wheels on the orange limited editions

Recommended Posts

Hi Renntech,

My Boxster shopping continues after the 986 I purchased proved to have some issues... the dealership took it back. I am now considering an orange limited edition Boxster S, one of which is available to me.

Does this car ride as well as a Boxster S with 18" wheels, or if anyone has experience and a ride penalty does exist, how severe is it?

thanks

Go drive it. One mans harsh ride is another mans daily driver. I drove a prepped STI with 650/550lbs springs with Tein Flex coilovers everyday and thought it was fine. Other people rode in my car and called their dentist after getting out.

I 1000% hear what you are saying, but in this case the local dealer will have to trade one of their cars for this car, as its not currently local. And i'd feel like a bit of an arse if they went to all that work and I said "nope, rides bad", so I thought i'd ask for two pennies from whomever.

I like the ride of the Boxster S's, 986 or 987. Comparing the 986S to 986, honestly, I think the S rides better on bad roads, which has always perplexed me.

A hard ride isn't necessarily a bad thing unless you live in NY state where the roads are terrible. There are pros and cons to the wider wheels depending on what you intend to do with your car. I like the ride on the Boxster S and BTW the Orange S version comes with 19" wheels, not the 18"

Ditto...I live in the area and the 18's feel already very harsh - blew two tires in the New Jersey potholes - so far no wheel damage. Thank god.

When I drive the car on nice roads though the 18's are amazing.

All the best,

Gus

I just upgraded to some 19" Sport Design Wheels from 18". I couldn't tell much difference. Of course, I don't have a princess pea butt either. Does the LE have PASM?

Buy the LE. If you find the ride too harsh it will probably be easy to find another Boxster owner that will switch wheels and tires with you as a lot of people like 19" regardless of the ride and handling compromises.

Enjoy!

Regards,

Alan
