Suspension noise - please help

Hi all,

wonder if you could possibly help me.

My Boxster S is making a terrible sound from the front right wheel arch when driving.

The noise sounds like someone jumping up and down on a creaky bed every time i go over a bump even slight. I thought is was a noisy spring but sounds like its coming from behind the brake discs.

The sound often only starts after driving for around 10 mins, or when the car is hot.

When then sound is at its worst i can turn the steering wheel toward that side and get a noise that is similar.

I can also replicate the sound by lifting the wheel arch up and then letting it down again or bouncing gently on the wing. Also when getting into the car, the creak is sometimes apparent.

If anyone could possibly shed some light on what the problem could be or anyway to pinpoint the exact problem, as the noise is driving me crazy and I need it cured at all costs.

could be as small as a worn boushing or as big as a strut.... any trust worthy mechanic could spot it for you.

Chances are your problem is a worn strut bearing.

It could also be the lower control arm bushing.

Either can be sprayed with a lubricant (to diagnose, not fix). If the sound changes or temporarily goes away, you have found the source.

Hi thanks for all the help.

I had the lower control arm replaced and the noise is cured.

Unfortunately the other side, and one of the rears has started making the same noise, so ill have to get them replaced too

I had the same problem! I took a syringe and filled it with gear lube. Then I injected it into the rubber boot for the ball joint that's located right behind the brake rotor. Problem fixed!

It's best to diagnose (and fix as needed) all four corners as control arm replacement necessitates a realignment.
