Going to change Exhaust backbox - anything else I should do ?

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

I have a 99 2.5, and I hope to change over the backbox to a Supersprint one. Is there anything in particular I require i.e. gaskets or C clamps for securing the exhaust etc ?

and do i really need to remove the rear bumper. I found a post by Tool Pants on the babblers forum about changing over the exhaust, however the thread doesn't have anything in it ?

Thanks

Brian

You don't need to remove the rear bumper to change what other folks call the muffler. The stock one will just *barely* clear. I have not used the Supersprint, but do a careful check to see what kind of clamps/hardware it uses. I would not recommend re-using the stock pipe clamps (reusing tubes OK). The bolts in them, more or less, press themselves into a metal holder, and they are a PITA to spread apart and even then are oval. It's just not worth the swearing. I get fresh ones from Sunset (cost +20%) for under $10 each. R/R the muffler goes so much smoother.

There is a DIY exhaust mod article by Loyd six

all depends on what kind of mod U are doing, usually requires a welder, pipe bender?

Is this what U are going with or cat back? WOW supersprint cat back system is $5000.00

I'm doing a similar mod using a pair of Dynomax turbo in a few days, all the parts came in less than $180
