Hi,

I have a 2001 996 C4 cabrio tiptronic with a CDR-23 installed. I would like to replace it with a second hand PCM1 16 bits version I bought through ebay. I must have spent about an hour searching for a topic there used to be on Renntech about this mod. It contained extensive guidelines on installing the PCM1, a list of required parts and lots of pictures. There is one on PCM2 on http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=7068, but I'm looking for the older version.

Could somebody please direct me to this topic again? Or has it gone lost somehow...?

Thanks in advance,

Marco

I think you are looking at a lot of work (including wiring for a very old - not very good) NAV system.

There are much better after market NAV systems available today.

I think this is what you want:

I had the same idea as you.. got the head unit, nav unit cd player, amp, and some cables. Ebay product, spent 800.00 and the thing does not work. Screwed!!!

The issues you will have are harnesses and Navigation CDs. The pcm1 with the 16 bit drive is better than the 8 bit as you know but the latest update was 2001. For Opel I think. Anyway I am considering an aftermarket modern unit. I plan to visit the dealer soon to look at the 2002 center console assenbly. It looks like the new double din units with all the features one could want will fit this assembly and still have the cup holders above. The 2002 model had a thin cup holder just below the AC vents. You can remove all the markings of the brand name on the unit and with the cup holders installed and just a screen it will look very close to a factory setup but with more features.

I realize I'm looking at an old thread, but I want to do the same on a 2002 c4s. Can someone direct me to the link that the OP refers to?
