Has anyone used a ScanGauge II?

Sorry but I would stick with Durametric. It can do more then just read OBD 2 data.

Yeah, I just figured the plus to this one is I could use it on my other non-Porsche vehicles as well. In the long run I'll probably end up buying both.

You're right about getting both, if you want to check other cars/trucks. I just got the Durametric, for my Pcar, as I already have the OBDII reader which only reads and clears P codes on every car with an OBDII system; where the Durametric reader reads other things, but just on the Pcar.

Good luck,

This is definitely the way to go, I would just pick up a cheapo OBDII from Harbor Freight (I think that's a CEN-TECH) or Amazon (the newer Acctrons work well) and then go durametric for the Porsche. I personally spent way too much money on a fancy OBD reader for my other cars, and the first time I saw a CEL in the Porsche I wished I had gone the Durametric route.

I have a SCII. It works just fine with the 996. It can be mounted in the car all the time and displays/records some useful data. A cheapie OBDII scanner if prob better if you don't need/want it in the car or the additional features.

Has anyone tried one of these ScanGauge IIs with their 996?

It says compatible with all models, but I've heard that before ...

I'm thinking about ordering the OBD II, but this would be cheaper and easier since my only laptop computer is a company computer.
