Wheel/Tire Carrier for 996

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a way to carry my track wheels/tires to autox and track events. I had a hitch on my '93 RX-7 that I used to tow a small trailer on which I carried my wheels/tires, toolbox, air tank, and miscellany.

Might there be a hitch for the 996? If not, one of the local guys described to me an apparatus that hangs off the back of the 996 on which wheels/tires slide on for transport.

Any info would be appreciated. :help:

Some local Boxster guys have a hitch for the track.  Funny, but I have never seen one on a 996, just Boxsters.  This is the one Carlos had on his Boxster.

Where can you get something like what Carlos has? It looks like it would work on a 996, right?

Carlos looks like a Willwood made by a guy named Will, and I think there is a bike rack attachment. EVO and South Sport also had/have hitches for Boxsters. I have no other info other than I have seen them on Boxsters in the 5 years I have been Boxstering. You can tow a light load of 4 tires and a track box for all your stuff.

On a Boxster the hitch is bolted to the bumperette brackets. I do not know if the spacing of the brackets is the same on a 996.

The last info I have for Will at Willwood - the maker of the hitches and accessories - is dustyn@calaveras.k12.ca.us or 209-772-3399. I've got one of his hitches and bike rack attachement on my Boxster for the past 3 years. Love it!.

i bought a hitch from EVOMS (evolution motorsports) ppl who make the supercharger for the 996.

the hitch is no longer advertised on their website, but call and ask and they'll tell you about it. it looks ALOT better than the one on that picture - very clean looking ill put pics up when i get the chance.

costs 300 but well worth it - very solid design. i use mine to tow a 4x8 trailer that holds a kart.
