External Temperature Sensor

2002 Boxster S: External Temperature Sensor help needed...

Does anyone know how the sensor is routed to the bumper location?

The previous owner had the bumper repainted and it seems the temperature sensor was not placed back properly. I have to assume the bumper was removed to have the bumper repainted. All I see is a hole and the front grill connection of where the sensor should be.

The weather has been warm recently and my display indicated an external "Temperature Sensor Failure"... I was in stop and go (mostly stop) traffic. When I got moving it dropped back to 140 deg F. The external temperature always seems to be hotter than normal.

I am wondering if I can trace it back to the front area. I figure the shop must have tied it up somewhere and forgot to put it back where it belongs.

I'd like to explore this before I determine that I really need to remove the bumper.

Thanks in advance!

Looks like the sensor is blocked between the black plastic duct and the radiator, that's way the outside temp. looks higher than normal. Most recommended procedure is to remove the bumper and the duct to inspect the sensor/wiring for locking ( stuck ) and damage.
