Changing wheels part 2: Need jack suggestions...

Recommended Posts

I have some Fikses on the way and will need to swap them with my Carrera rims for track events. So, I need some suggestions on which floor jack to buy.

I've done some searching, but there are so many jacks available that it's crazy!

Low-profile is nice. Portability would be nice to take to the track eventually, but I really don't need that right now. Some of the jacks are megabucks.

What jacks do you guys recommend?

Also, the larger black style 996 jack pad is no longer available from Pelican Parts. They only offer the little yellow & white piece that's noted for the "Boxster". Will this little yellow piece work for the 996? Or are the jack undermount points different in shape between the 986 and 996?

Cheers! :D

A lot of people in my local PCA region have picked up the aluminum jack from Harbor Frieght. It's under $200 and they have been happy with them. I got mine from CostCo for around $250 or so, if I remember and I've been happy with it as well. I wouldn't recommend spending the $500-750 some other places charge for aluminum "racing" jacks.

A block of hardwood and a hockey puck placed on the jack plate will work, you don't need to buy a special pad. Just make sure whatever you use is lined up on the jacking point under the car and you'll be ok.

Randy, go to Harbor Freight on the web if you can't find it a costco.

I used one at Rob's house and it's awesome. Super light, and easy to use. We hiked up Todd's Boxster with it for the brake job. I almost bought one that day after using it, but since I don't really need to raise my car, I didn't. :)

Will you have the new wheels for the next DE?

What rubber are you putting on them?

Yeah, the wheels should be here for the next DE, but I'll probably still run my Carrera rims with the Rossos.

I customized the offset on the Fikses and went with the Bridgestone S-03s.

I need to find that jack...
