Install instrux for cayenne running boards?

Recommended Posts

Trying to install the running boards but running into a problem... There are 6-sided holes in the lower frame and in the running board kit are the pictured 6-sided inserts -- they slide right in (but dont stay). The screws are meant to go into these to hold the running board in place. I thought maybe they were like drywall screws where they expanded when tightened but no go. They just fall out. Any ideas??

Hi Scott,

These are expander nuts which are usually fitted with a hydraulic tool, just like a rivet.

For me, it always worked with longer bolt with a spare nut.

You keep the bolt so it cannot rotate while you tighten the nut.

I'd love a copy, @Loren. Thank you.

I've read elsewhere you will in fact need a rivet gun to install the blind rivet nuts. And that there are several templates you need to install the front and rear holders to align them to the body. Is that the case? The factory repair manual simply states, "ensure that they are fitted correctly and not damaged; if necessary, replace."

Just purchased the the brackets, screws and running boards from the junkyard. Forgot to see how the rivet nuts were fitted. I believe this is the correct part number I need: Blind rivet nuts 904-085-04

Several years ago Porsche's lawyers sent me a "take-down notice" to remove all copyrighted Porsche material from the website or face litigation. I had no choice but to comply with their demands.
