PIWIS OBC Hack, again

Recommended Posts

Finally went to have the OBC turned on at the local dealer and using Yoseif's well written instructions for a PST2, myself, the service manager and a service tech tried this trick with a PIWIS. They were as patient as one could expect but there were obviously some changes between these two instruments that make Yoseif's instructions obsolete. Can someone supply the correct menu path using the latest PIWIS?

I'd just like to get this nailed down as this was my third trip there and I'm gonna wear out my welcome.

I remember being in the instrument cluster page but not DME. Didn't see anything about it there. Do you have to turn it on in DME to even get it to show up in instrument?

I can't remember for sure - I get confused with the cruise control because we usually turn both on at the same time. I know for sure the cruise control has to be turned on both places for MY01 and newer Boxsters. Check in the cluster first and if it is not there then check the DME too.

I expect the Order Code is missing from the DME vehicle data:

For Boxsters and 996’s with the new instrument cluster, if there is no option in the Instrument Cluster Coding for “with On-board Computer” use the following procedure:

Do a Control Module Search from the Vehicle Type screen.

Go to DME control unit.

Go to Vehicle Data.

Scroll down to Order Type.

Press the F7 key to edit.

Enter the 6-digit Order Code – 986310 for 2.7, 986320 for S, 986330 for Anniversary.

Press F7 to confirm.

Go back to the Vehicle Type screen and do a full Control Module Search. (Essential).

Go to Instrument Cluster, go to Coding and recode for “with On-board Computer” and press the F8 key to save.
