P codes 1028, 1030 Idle adaptation

Recommended Posts

Hope you guys can help me diagnosing what might be wrong with my 2001 C2. I am getting codes 1128 and 1130 idle adaptation both banks. Have this coming up twice over the last 350 miles. I have done plugs, air filter, oil, belt over the last 500 miles. I have checked the MAF wiring, vacuum hoses etc for leaks. Runs great at 775 rpm idle and no problems in rev range, Durametric shows no misfires, no other codes.

Please share the multitude of experience on Renntech!

Thanks

Thanks guys, I just cleaned the MAF sensor with CRC MAF cleaner and it actually got worse, rough idle and CEL came right on. Checked wires and all. Guess I'll give it one more try then replace the MAF. Wire wasn't visibly damaged or dirty but I guess you never know.

THanks again

I would think it's perfectly acceptable to notice a change in running condition after cleaning the MAFS. The resistance values the PCM is seeing are considerably different before the cleaning. Do you have a K&N? I'm not following the path that so many have taken before I'm just curious.

No K&N, the CEL has cleared and the car seems OK. I failed NY emissions because I cleared the codes but didn't allow the car enough miles for OBD II to report the status. Of course I bought a new MAF sensor from Pelican ($252) and am wondering if I'll pass with my old one. Ah, I'm going to put in the new one and drive 100 miles this weekend. Hopefully that will solve my problem.

Just an update, car passed emissions today with no problems. New MAF sensor $252 at Pelican Parts 5 minutes labor. Just a tip for the connector, take the unit out of air box and depress button, then using a 3/16" flat blade screwdriver lift the small lock tab up 1/16" and the plug comes right out. I tried the "shop manual" way for 15 minutes and it was not coming apart. There is something about Porsche/Audi/VW connectors that they are made to stay connected :D

Love the forum :renntech:

Thanks, Steve
