Motion detector inoperative

Recommended Posts

I have an 02 Boxster S that I bought last summer. Great car, love it. I noticed early on that while the alarm works correctly in most respects, the motion activation feature doesn't. If I leave the window open, lock and activate the alarm, then wait the apprpriate time and stick my hand inside and wave it around, nothing happens. I actually posted on this board at one point and came up with no new ideas other than the motion detector device itself might be bad. Since not a real big deal, and didn't want to spend the money, I just left it alone.

Last week I thought I'd get after it again and called Sunset about the part. I was advised that before I went to that expense I ought to take the car to my local dealer and get them to check the alarm for me because it is possible that the previous owner had the motion detector disabled. Apparently this is possible via programming of the alarm.

Question is: since I live well over an hour from my nearest Porsche dealer, can anyone tell me if there might be a way to check this myself?

Thanks

John

There is a test you can do for infrared sensors using a cel phone camera. If the sensor is working is will show up as a bright white/blue light when viewed on the cel phone. I know it works on IR remotes and such. The camera has to directly straight on the eye of the sensor to see it. Hope this is of some help.
