Engine Compartment Blower Fan Error

Recommended Posts

On a US, 6 speed 2002 911 Carrera 4S I just started receiving a system notification of a problem with the engine blower motor At the same time, I noticed the engine blower runs while driving, while stopped with the engine at idle and for about 20 minutes after I shut down the engine. The engine temp warning light also flashes. All temps are normal. It sounds like a temperature sensor problem but I can't figure out where the sensor is located to check it. Can someone tell me where the sensor is located or offer other diagnostic steps I can take. I would also like to know when the engine compartment blower is supposed to operate. Should it be on while driving?

Not an expert on this, but the fan operates based on the reading from the temp. sensor. Very possible it is a bad, disconnected sensor or thermostat (what was the actual code? P0115/16/17/18 or what). Also Check to make sure the fan is bringing air in from the top and blowing the cool air down on the engine. I have seen where the polarity is switched resulting in that fault.

Try the nifty search function as this has been covered a few times.

The sensor is installed in a grommet between the first 2 intake tubes on the top of the engine on the passenger side. There is a 2 cnductor cable connected to the back sensor. If this wire is disconnected, the fan will operate, even when the car is off and temperature is above a specific limit. It will also show up as a fault by a flashing temp light. Check the connection.
