2.7 to 3.6 swap

Recommended Posts

I am starting the swap tomorrow; I am using this topic to update on the status of the swap.

The planed timeframe is 2 weeks. Will see how it goes.

I got some tips from Todd and also I offer this open topic as an oportunity for Todd to post more tips so will be available for anybody in the future. I will use Todd pdf instructions for the mecanical swap.

The 3.6 comes with the harness and DME. Also I have the imobilizer and keyfob from that engine. My engine is a tiptronic. I will post any other parts I might need. Picture if available too - the swap will be done by an experienced porsche indie mechanic. The engine and ithe erst of the parts are from LA Dismantlers that are very helpfull so far. Tomorrow will do the 3.6 engine leak test and start the swap.

Still waiting for the DME/harness. The car it's up in the air getting ready to have the 2.7 engine extracted. I will figure out soon how to get the pics in here

Trust in my case. It looks like less than that actually.

Sometimes they have pics with the cluster on and the VIN. Or service records it's another way.

Thanks!

Sorry for the ignorance, but how do you tell the mileage anyway?

7500 shipped; I should get 2000 back when they get my working 2.7 .

30000 miles. 7500-2000 core.

$5500 out the door?

what did it cost to ship it?

As far as the number of miles you can also check the number of hours the motor has.

I assume that is stored in the DME -- but he does have that with this engine.

Yes I do. Not sure if I will use it or I will use the piggybag system. Does anybody knows where did Todd got his piggybag system to control the variocam plus solenoids?

what does a system like that run? -- are you using that with your 2.7L DME instead of a 996 DME?

I ask because I might find myself with a 996 Engine and no DME, and was wondering what my options were.

Do I swap it in a Boxster, another 996, heart transplant for an older 911, etc.

They run 400-500 (for the SMT8 - that I will get). It's less than the labor and parts to change everything. I will let you know how it works. My intent it's to keep the old dme 7.2; mapit to 996 3.4 and use the piggyback to control the variocam and adjust the voltage of the MAF for the 3 inch intake. I will update the post as I go.
