Engine Oil Level Guage Possible Failure?

I have a MY 2000 Boxster S. I took it for a short drive and noticed that there was no oil that is registering on the Engine Oil Level Guage. I checked the oil manually using the dip stick and all is well, so i continued my drive home. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to check, loose connection, etc.? I did add a few ounces to bring the oil level up to max on the physical dip stick but still do not receive an oil level on the display screen.
