Hi,

I am a non-smoker so I wonder if anyone knows of any aftermarket or original parts like sunglasses holder etc what I could put in there instead of standard ashtray.

Forgot to mention - it is for 997 C2. I saw ashtray delete thing for 996 but not sure if it fits 997.

Not sure I can help with a drop in replacement but I have modified my ashtray for several options over the past couple of years. Originally, I cut a hole in it and the console to make a cupholder (mine didn't have one). Then I fiberglassed it back in just to have a cavity for a sunglass holder (removed the two dummy switches for lowering rear windows that I don't have on my coupe). Now I have fiberglassed the whole console in and put a "command knob" for my Kenwood entertainment system. Going to cover the whole thing in Alcantara when I finish.

You can fit sunglasses in an ashtry. Please

send us a picture. I figured that the ashtray was

big enough for only reading glasses.

Paul

Paul . . . You can put a monocle in that little cubbyhole.

According to Sunset the non-smoker kit only works with 05 987 and presumably 997.

I had a 'Non-Smoker' kit in my 986. If it recall it replaces the ashtray w/ simple open tray and includes a dummy lighter to replace the real one.

I think the Sunset Porsche item is misleading. I'm sure it's meant to be for the previous interior style (ie. 996, 986, etc).

I could be wrong . . . . Wouldn't be the first time. :)

They should really all come as "NON SMOKER" cars and make the smokers pay for a "SMOKER ADD KIT" $500+Tax+Labor to install !!

Sorry, can't show a pic of the modified ashtray because it has been further modified. I originally cut out the back two switches that I guess operates something on a cabriolet. I fiberglassed the whole thing together and repainted. Then I could put sunglasses in there. After that I fiberglassed the whole hole thing in and moved the two window switches to blank places on the dash. I then covered my center console in Alcantara since it was getting pretty scratched up. I modified the console bin to be a cup holder and covered that with contrasting alcantara.

Unfortunately there is no kit for a 997. I used the same kit you mentioned in my old 986 Boxster S.

Remember this is the 997 forum so why post a 996 item?

No harm no foul.

I put a "non smoking kit" into my 996 that replaces the ash tray with a small storage tray and I mean small. It will not hold my Blackberry securely. You can see it here:
