Temperature gauge 04 cayenne turbo

Recommended Posts

Just Curious. I have replaced coolant pipes, thermostat, and waterpump. When at idle for any length of time, temperature guage rises from 180 (center position) to right of center about 210 degrees. When moving again with airflow needle goes back down to 180. Is this normal. I already had the coolant pipe dump and had to replace those. I want to ensure that i wont run into anymore coolant problems.

Sounds like the cooling system has an air pocket. If you dont have the AirLift bleeding kit, start car up cold and have someone keep revs at around 4000 rpms and start adding distilled water until the t-stat opens around the 180 mark, then put cap back on and let off the high rpms and drive hard, rev it a couple of times and that should do it for you.

Vizcarra44

Yes, that is normal operation for an 04.

Yeah my 06 TTS does this as well and returns back to 180. It happens after I drive it hard and it returns to 180 when I stop at a traffic light. I almost freaked out lol

Basic physics -- under effort engines generate additional heat. Cayenne S's and Turbo's have heat exchangers pulling heat from engine oil and transferring it to radiator coolant. Thank the Porsche designers and engineers for allowing us to see the truth in our gauges. No need to freak out -- we just need to overcome our conditioning and realize Cayenne gauges are intended to reflect reality. My VW Golf (GTI) and other cars I've driven (Subaru's et al) are set-up in a manner that the gauges remain constant no matter the driving or ambient conditions. In essence, they are not accurate but they keep people calm. For Cayenne's be sure to study the relationship between oil temp and coolant temp as you are driving.
