Jack/Jack stand support for DIY'r

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey guys!

I'm proud to say I'm a new owner of a '99 986! I'm loving it. I got the car knowing and hoping to do a little work on it here and there.

My question for you is... I've been reading and researching about how to jack it up and support the car. It looks like the jack stands should be put where the jack goes. I see where guys put the jack just ahead (towards the front of the car) and have made special mods - like cut a groove in a hockey puck - to not ruin the metal seam under the car. Is there anyone, or parts store (on-line or not) who sells a device for is purpose? I'm afraid I'm not that good at making something from scratch - especially when it comes to something that could be potentially dangerous like this!

Basically two things would be handy here - the top of the jack stand to fit the shape of the car and, a device to put atop the jack.

Any helpful hints, links or pics would be much appreciated!

Joel

If you only need a bit of space and don't need to remove wheels, ramps work great. Rhino Ramps works great. I have the regular ones, but would buy the SUV version if I had to do it again, since the SUV version is wider, which works better for low profile Porsche tires.

There are two jack points on each side. Your Boxster is stiff enough that you can jack up the entire side of the car from one jack point, and place a jack stand under the other one. I have an Imagineering Web Floor jack adapter which is sold on eBay by seller delubozparts and have been very happy with it. I recently bought a pair of Esco jack stands, which have a flat base, but haven't had a chance to use them yet. They are expensive, but I found a pair on eBay for about half price. I've seen them advertised at Pelican Parts and Northern Tool

If you search renntech, you will find a lot of information on jacking up Boxsters and Carreras
